Maybe it works for you, but for me if I let the grater sit out for too long and then try flushing it with hot water it doesn't come off unless I literally stand there shooting water at it for a really long time.

A. Don't leave it out, and let it dry. Drop it in water, and clean later. or...
B. Soak in hot soapy water, then spray.
