IT could be done rather well by a mod team. Take a look at what Troopers has produced. Baring the size of the maps and the engine limitations (which are removed with Unreal Engine 3) it is all there. Flying ships, physics, shields, lasers. So any team with talent could come in and get their own stuff going with all sorts of objective type maps or just TDM maps.

Hell with the new infinite maps. If you have a team willing to map it you could have a fight range all the way from the ground to an objective in space. I'm not saying that it would be easy to balance or do, but it could be done.

Anyone here remember Breed? It was an FPS game that came out a little while ago. I tried the Breed Beta and it had a lot of great ideas, but overall they were poorly executed. One nice ability it did have, was that each map went from space, right down through the atmosphere down to the ground (with a transition points halfway down), so fighters/dropships would start off on a transport ship in orbit and then go the whole way down, and the other side could either wait for tem low level either in the atmosphere of on the ground, or they could go up into space to take the attackers on head-to-head. It didn't work for Breed, mainly because the throttle system on it's vehicles sucked so hard (one of the biggest flaws with the game IMO), which was a massive shame, becuase the vehicles were actually very, very cool.
A Conquest map that starts from your mothership, goes over land resources to get the power to control a resource of fighter ship hangers that fly up to the enemy's mothership to attack, raid and capture?

Sounds like a plan ;)

I would guess your post is an argument against the inclusion of space combat in UT franchise, but read what you wrote and think about it working.

Riding with vehicles was done quite good and funny but the "planes" are also a little bit weird, could also be left out.

Yes, they are, but the flying system must be polished and not the airships removed.
It´s hard to belive a future war without airships.

I would vote yes if it could be done right and keep the ut feel... but it can't.

I'd say if it takes a lot of extra time to do it well - skip it. I'd rather have some very solid conventional type maps.

While I thought the space fighting in AS-Mothership was fun, once I got on a good computer, I have to agree with Hal though. I'd rather see solid gameplay from conventional stuff first. Unless they can come up with solid space fighting as well without extending release date by much.
