Has anyone ever experienced this with Soundblaster cards?? I was using a SB PCI 128 fine for about 2 years and had UT with 436 patch installed and was using Infiltration 280, then decided to remove 280 and installed 285. Only about 2 weeks later, the sound crackles as if talking through a two-way radio. I completely removed the 285 mod, mappacks and UT and deleted its folder, then scandisked and defragged. Then I installed UT and Infiltration in its proper order from previous posts and still the same thing. I even tried some of the suggestions of turning down the hardware, but no effect and no, the sound card is on its own IRQ and not sharing with anything. I also tried updating the sound card drivers, but to no effect.

I only experienced the sound crackling when installing the 285 mod and afterwards normal UT had the same problem. The 280 mod never had sound crackling.

My specs (pathetic!):
P2 333 (not overclocked)
224mb Ram
32mb Diamond Stealth S540 2x with tweaked drivers
15gb
4x burner
S3 tweaker program

I get crackling in a lot of games if I set the sound level too high in-game. It's like the card puts out too much signal power for the speaker line.

my speaker level wasn't set at a loud level, more like a medium to soft level. When playing the 285 mod, the crackles would be from the echoes of any of the weapons. When playing regular UT, the music as well as the sounds would crackle. Well, it doesn't really matter after I replaced it with an Aureal Vortex 2 sound card and it sounds great!
