So what have you done to help out UT:XMP recently ?

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

This is a question I'm asking to each any every member that considers themselves a fan of the game. What exactly have you done to help UT:XMP gain some popularity as of late ?

Have you invited friends of friends along onto servers ? Have you actually invited people to see what it's like in a clan war or scrim ? Have you gone so far as to explain the different aspects of the game ? Have you explained the different tricks that can be done ?

Or have you simply hopped onto the bandwagon expecting things to happen by themselves ? Have you simply stuck to your useless habit of ranting about everyone and everything and disgusting newcomers on the servers without realizing it ? If so, you're wasting everyone's time and throwing away all the hard work that FMI has done. The people who fit this paragraph need to soften the learning curve for those who are interested in giving this game a spin.

P.S: MurderousPanda before saying anything in this thread, get some medecine for that nasty constipation of yours.

A better question to ask is, "What has FMI done to help out UT:XMP recently?" I know they're supposedly just "on a break", but considering it's been over two weeks since the last changelog update and all we've gotten is http://www.free-monkey.com/anp.jpg with no other word about anything that -might- be going on, why should we care?

And I ask myself, have you ever played U2:XMP or UT:XMP before, or have you read a post on this or the bug report thread? :)

I handed the link off to all my friends when it was made public. I'd like to get a server going but mine doesn't really handle ONS or AS, so I highly doubt that it'll run XMP all that well... Also, I haven't gotten a chance to try ver 1a, and I was hoping for the game to stabalize some more before setting up a server with it...

XMP uses the ONS code for vehicles, which along with the similarity (in a very general style) of the maps lends each other to the expansiveness of the maps. ONS server load can definitely be expected as the similarities to ONS are far more than say CTF or TDM.

Does making stupid posts in these forums count?

Actually, I did post links in a couple other forums I visit back when the beta was released (and before I even had the game myself.)

I finally did play UTXMP this past Saturday night (found out where the wife hid my UT2K4) with some X Clanners and [pet]panda. It was fun, and the Gunner does own right now (or X Clan sucks :) ). Now I can go back to those other forums and look like I know what I'm talking about.

You can ussually invite others to game ONCE. Everyone clearly understands, that if someone gets totally disapointed about the game, its hard or even impossible to invite him again. Thats why i am waiting for more stable game version which could give at least the same amount of fun as original XMP did.

Actually, I was drinking my Sierra Nevada Celebration. Also, I don't swig, I savor, and I say thankya. Damn, reading 3 Stephen King Gunslinger books in a row polutes your thinking, ya ken?

this is sillyness, we all started servers and tried to get our clans playing utxmp when it came out. We've put a lot of time/effort into getting this off the ground, but it's just not ready yet. When it's finished it will be played, its still a beta game anyways, why the worries

i agree - I'd say that at the moment it would be better to wait for the finished product before we introduce it to new players.. not hiding it; just not advertising it yet either. i think it's a great game and wouldn't like people to get a poor first impression.

That's exactly what this is. So, if I get things straight, everyone is waiting for FMI's next patch. Well, so be it. Bit of a shame to waste the hype surrounding the initial release though. I'd have thought diehards would have stuck in there and played the game despite it's flaws.

And thumbs up for planning a map release.

Bravo for the time and effort. However, even if it's a beta, it's still playable isn't it ? Did FMI simply get it out before the projected date to see players look at it like a rotten cabage ? I've played both U2XMP and UT:XMP and I'm certainly not counting on oldskool U2:XMP players to make the new game popular because I'm not sure if you've gotten over the doom and gloom routine you had going in the other forum.

It may not be prime time for UT:XMP to be played by clans but it still remains a game that can be played for fun. Please don't shun it because it's unlike the game you know. It'll get there eventually and I'm sure FMI are thinking of the next patch. They probably need some rest after the hectic efforts they've made.
