Is that unusual for the series? For the main storyline to be 8-10 hours? I mean, Oblivion can be completed (without any goofy tricks) in as many or less.
I haven't played SR2 due to it receiving a constant bashing concerning performance, so I don't have a frame of reference. I think you are saying SR3 is too short?
I definately get the feeling that Volition ran out of time with this one, probably due to them changing engines.
It is quite a bit shorter than SR2 was, many of the "storyline" missions are now just introductions to the diversions (in SR2 this wasen't done, all diversions were 100% standalone and optional, and all missions were plot driven), the customization items seem quite sparse compared to SR2, and there's quite a few missing features and distractions (like the abilliy to replay any storyline mission at will, damn shame that's not in SR3), and other small but nice things and details that aren't there.
So yeah, it's a bit on the lean side compared to SR2, not nearly as much content, and i really think it comes down the deadline, i don't think Volition was given enough time to both do a new engine and make all the content that SR2 had, which is a shame.
But whilst i do miss some things, and hope that atleast some of them will be added later, it's also more polished overall than SR2 was in it's game mechanics, and critically, none of what's missing is a deal breaker, it's mostly creature compforts, details and sheer volume of choice, none of it really stops you from enoying the game and doing 90% of the stuff that was fun in SR2 also.
So yeah, i was hoping for more, and hopefully SR4 will take the ball and roll with it, and be all about providing tons of content to the solid foundation that is SR3, but SR3 is still a really fun game, and i have no regrets buying it.
