If those rumors were true, Epic would be smart to entertain the notion of being acquired. They're on a plateau right now, and in between fan bases. Few game companies start a second upward trend, and I doubt that the hail of recent UE3-powered game-craters is the harbinger of good things to come.

With their traditional fan base in retreat, and their own forums becoming an intolerant wasteland, I'd expect the Epic crew to jump on the first boat that comes along. Just ask John Carmack how easy it is to stay relevant after the tides shift.

Well just for that here are some others.

“This is the best game ever made, because we made it, ... It's going to be a lot of fun to play. We found the Xbox 360 to be more powerful than we thought it would be.”

“They were able to clear a lot of their assortments out without having to resort to big sales.”

“People are going to be blown away when they get a PS3 and play it.”

“It's like saying people are going to stop browsing on the Internet. It's idiot

“Oh yeah, it's a lot of fun. Mark Rein equals target practice!”

“I expect by the time Unreal Engine 3 is dead and buried, we'll ship 200 titles. Maybe 300.”

1) Mark never said the infamous "Two Weeks"
2) some people prefer steak
He did post it at the closed down Infogrames forums. I don't know why you state it's false, when it is in fact true. I was around anticipating the UT2003 demo just as much as anybody at that time.

There has been a huge amount of polish work done to the game since my last update especially in the area of AI where Steve Polge has made AI that is vastly improved over that in UT. Infogrames is shipping a bunch of testers here next week to help us shake out the game a little harder.

In my estimation we're still more than two weeks away from shipping the demo. I know this might be disappointing to many of you eagerly waiting for the demo but as soon as we think we're 5-7 days away I'll let you know. I thought we'd be done with the demo by now but I underestimated. My apologies for that."
