I´d be really happy to see a mod that adds more realism to the game. I think XMP system is a great platform for creating even more tactical and team based game. So let´s put up a brainstorm.
I find realism important to some extent because it usually increases immersion. If things work the way you expect, you really feel like being in the game. You all have noticed this. When light effects look natural it´s really cool. If physichs engine does it´s work experience is pretty much like "WOW".
So here´s some stuff:
1. How about seeing legs when looking down? Player is more than just pair of hands holding massive firepower.
2. More gore and possibility to get killed even when not gut-blowed. In public games it´s way too rare seeing someone to revive you after pawnage. Headshots could be lethal eg. with sniper rifle, shotgun and rocket launcher. It´s much more "satisfying" to shoot enemy into pieces than watch him hang around and end his days by respawning.
3. Different body parts should take different amount of damage. For example sniper shot deals it´s same terrible damage to chest and toes. GAAAH!
4. Bullets should have realistic ballistics. Ok, they´re hitech and stuff, but they should still have certain delay.
5. Aiming should shake slightly. This could diminish when player "ducks and covers"
6. Possibility to go prone. (Camper snipers cheer!)
7. Footsteps should make more noise. Nice for giving warm welcome for attackers right behind the corner. (Of course depends on the material ppl walk on)
8. Every class needs binoculars.
9. Map computer for everyone to see where teammates are and getting a better view of the battlefield.

I didn´t comment weapons coz they are a whole different story, but this for starters.
OMFG PLZ NO FLAMEWAR N00BS TRY 2 BHAVE FU UR ADULTS FFS! :D

I'm sure it could be entertaining, but there's far too many realism mods out as is. Some of those changed would greatly change from XMP to something that would be completely different, and considering the board is filled with mostly rabid XMP fans, stuff like unreviveable kills may not go over well. My personal preference that I would like XMP how it is over the following changes. That being said...

1. No problem here.

2. Completely changes the game. Not sure how to work around this. I've always liked reviving in games, although other games do manage to make non-reviveable kills work, like Wolf: ET.

3. Would cause complex balancing issues regarding weapon damage, but not a terrible suggestion. Sounds like something that belongs in a World War X mod.

4. As long as theres a skill to using the weapons with these alterations, its not a bad idea. Reducing a weapon that already takes talent to aim to something that requires just as much luck due to "bullet alterations", isn't cool in my book.

5. No argument here, although people WILL find out how to get rid of it via .ini editing. If you're going to force this, then you might as well force bobbing as well, and that suggestion wouldn't go over well.

6. As long as prone also equates to 'anyone nearby while im in this position is going to get more or less a free kill', then i suppose its acceptable.

7. I think UT2004 already has some surface that are louder than others while walking. I don't think, though, that walking should be too pronounced. With everything thats going on during a game, it's hard to imagine someone being able to pick out footsteps, nor should they be anywhere as loud as any in game sound.

8. Several people already have 'binoculars' in the form of a manual FOV alias. Just giving it to everyone takes this advantage away, and thats something for the better.

9. If you mean by a seperate map similar to T:V, it couldnt hurt.

Really good idea, put the ragdoll stuff back in :D
But what would happen to the raptor? It's the most unreal vehicle I've ever seen in a game, and should probably stay that way. We'll see however.

fov is a hack?..you can just type fov xxx in the command bar though? i don't see how that helps you see further away, i use to use fov 120 and i couldn't see things far away better

There's a difference between changing your fov via menu, and having an alias that in effect gives you a zoom with any single weapon, such as the pistol. It's been around since the early quake days. I know you're smarter than this and know exactly what I'm talking about.

It's not a "hack" per se, but whether or not you consider it wrong usually depends on your philsophy of such thing. Some people think if you can change it through .ini and not use any external programs, then its okay. My thought is that, barring video tweaks to help those people with 5 fps go up to 7, if you cant do it through the menu, you shouldn't have it, unless its documented by the creator somewhere. LE didn't intend to have a universal zoom bind, there's not one in the menu afaik, so I consider it something of a cheat.

But in 2k4 it's limited to between 80 and 100 (unleass the weapon has a zoom of course)

In game console (same as editing the ini as far as i can see...) if you type in FOV 110 it will only go to 100, likewise if you type in FOV 40, it will still only go down to 80 - try it ;)

Fleury, XMP is the first online fps i've played over 20 minutes (i tried CS once), I didn't know you could get a "zoom" on weapons other than sniper. I found out about typing fov xx from hm >DE<Rarhok, but just changing it through the command console, and i've never heard of other people using it..

There's a bunch of stuff that can be added in the .ini that can't be done in game, primarily aliasing. I think changing FOV to levels outside of the game-imposed 80-100 barrier is one of them. It would have to be done somehow considering there's already a sniper zoom.

Edit: Fur, a sniper zoom is more or less just changing your FOV to something small like 30 or 40. It was a common bind in the old Quake games. I'm surprised you didn't know this, as its common knowledge.

Common knowledge? as i say again i never really got into the specifics of xmp other than maybe tweaking for better fps...and as i said before i haven't played fps games (for long) other than XMP.

Let´s just end this FOV sh1t and have proper binoculars for spotting snipers. One feature I´ve missed is looking behind corners like eg. in Soldier of Fortune and dozen other games.
(just imagine how cool screenshots you could do when one players of each class make a human pyramide and peek around a corner. Like the Dalton brothers...)

I´d also like to be able to climb in the style of Prince of Persia. Not such acrobatics but getting a grasp from an edge and pulling yourself up would be useful. Of course both hands are out of use while climbing preventhing curious dexterity combos. )

Realism? No thanks. That's why I play Unreal.

If I can't shoot a rocket into the ground to make myself jump higher, I don't want to play it.
