As long as they don't nerf self weapon momentum or hammer in Conquest I'll be a happy camper. I hate how they nerfed movement in ut2k4 AS.

I agree with that. It added soo much to the UT99 AS.

Best reason to say 'no' to racing : it just does not fit in the UT-universe.
Plus the ONS-maps already are about getting from node to node in the fastest possible way.

How many of those who want a race gametype are willing to create it instead of asking for it to somebody else?
I'd say about 0,1 % is willing to make the mod/mutator they say they want.
And +/- 0,000001 % is capable of finishing said mod after starting development.

UnWheel was a semi- successful driving/ racing mod for UT2k4... I'd guess they'll keep going for 2k7, but who knows?

There was also a F-Zero- style futuristic hoverthingy racing mod and I can't for the life of me remember the name of it now. I downloaded and played an early release of it, it wasn't really well worked out but it seemed like it had potential.

Some of these posts are sad. it sounds like people are trying to already figure out how to ruin Conquest, the same way they ruined Assult.

Assault in ut2k4 is nerfed and trying to make a gametype like AS tactical in a game that yeilds very odd gameplay and has very odd weaponry isn't going to work out well. Get rid of the spawn timer. Let people spam as much as possible, let people trickjump around the level and do crazy things. Let there be tactical manuevering and let there be be chaos at the same time. Make it chaotic and fastpaced, yet not mindless.

Neo if you are posting about the people that made AS racing maps, they didn't ruin anything. If people want to play a trial map or racing map they should be able to and if people want to play AS they should be able to.

One thing I think would be really cool, is servers being able to join different server rings with similar theme, so people that want to play vanilla CON with custom maps don't have to sift through racing and trial servers, just like the people that want to play trial don't have to sift thorugh a bazillion regular CON servers to find a server they want to play on.

If servers could join server rings someone could simply type in the server ring they want to search for in the server browser filter (TrialMapGroup or StraightEdge or some other server ring name a group of admins decided to creat)and they'd see all servers that are participating in the server group and not have to look at the other servers.

*edit* Also let there be a way to browse all gametype instead of having to search each gametype. Sometimes people might want to search for a certain type of server, but they don't really care about what gametype it is and it's a pain searching all gametypes, so if there was just an "All Gametype" option that would be great. A lot of servers allow people to vote for different gametypes so if someone wanted to search for a certain server ring that plays different gametypes they won't have to search through each gametype to find all the servers that are in that ring.

The thing is, when every wanabe mapper floods the UT world with lame trial and race maps, guess what’s going to end up on the majority of servers?

I have a feeling that’s why Epic changed the parameters of the Assault game type, and I hope that in doing so they also made it impossible to flood the UT universe with above mentioned maps.

I mean UT99 had skill type objectives, but they integrated it into the normal map. For example, having to complete a trick jump in order to get a power up etc., and it actually added to game play. UT2k3 had skill maps, but they were for single player only, which IMO is how EVERY skill enhancing map should be.

But in UT2k4 they ruined assault by making maps that the majority of players DON'T want to play, but are forced to play because the lack of real AS maps made for UT2k4. I mean they don't even try to make a real AS map. I'm learning UED currently, but you can bet if I attempted an AS map, though it may look ****y, the layout and goals would be much better than any race or trial map where you spend 90% of the map either falling or dead.

Also the handful of servers that play normal AS maps, and have people playing on them, usually have the highest ping. So you're really only get about 5-10 choice low ping AS servers to chose from depending where you are located, and how much cash your shelling out for your DSL or cable connection. And the majority are running the above mentioned maps.

I still can't agree with your complaining about other people playing what they want to play, making maps they want to make, or hosting servers with maps they like to play. If you want to play certain maps then host and admin your server or support servers with settings you like, by frequenting them a lot and make a community.

There is a simple solution to multiple server themes within one gametype.

Admins should be given the ability to have a server ring keywords kindof like websites. So if a group of admins want to make a server ring all they have to do is just agree to use the same keyword so people can UToogle it just as if they were filtering for a certain mutator or server settings. I also think their should be an option to search for all gametypes.

Ex: A group of trial server admins agree to use "trial" in their keyword description and more and more trial admins catch on and start putting trial in their keyword description to attract the "trial" playerbase to their server. So if Joe Tollefson wants to play trial maps all he has to do is simply enter trial as a keyword in his filter.

If you want to make your own maps fine, but use your own theme and style. 90% of trial and race maps look and feel the same, and instead of trying to make each map better than the last, they make one almost exactly the same as the last.

Not only are the maps not unique in any way, but they don't even take the time to learn the editor properly, and that is the most annoying thing. Because while others take some time to learn the editor, they only bother learning the first couple steps in a tutorial, and then build a map.

That’s not creative, that’s not even art. It's people who are too impatient and lazy to learn how to make a proper map or improve upon an existing map. The only race map I can recall the name to that is in any way unique is War_machines. At least that map shows a greater understanding of the editor, and improves upon what other race maps attempted.

I mean I'm not even through the first map tutorial, and I could probably make one of those race maps. The only thing I would need to learn is vehicle placement and objective triggers.

And if you still don't see why it aggravates me, just look at Thorns. How creative and difficult is it to re-skin a map, and add or subtract one or two items? Beyond that, who wants to play the same map with different visuals 10 times or more in a row? It gets old quick.

I mean come on people use your own brain and make something original for once.
