bugs are features too ...

just because it's "a hobby" or "for fun" that doesn't mean you should ignore stuff like this.
Sure you can hack your way around 'broken' Kismet, but in the long run it's better to get the broken parts fixed.

One of the reasons is that if you are depending on a broken feature then your maps will break once the feature gets fixed (either by Epic or a 3rd party).
It's the kind of stuff that causes the majority of bugs in 'normal' programs too.

Think of your map as a car (or a house or any other 'real' object).
Would you consider a car that is helt together with ducktape acceptable ?
I doubt you would, but why do people find this acceptable in software ?
It may appear to 'work' but there's no guaruantee that it won't fall apart.

So if you see Kismet that is too complex or doing 'stupid' things then you really should consider fixing it for real instead of picking the ducktape-solution.
and that may mean either finding someone to fix it for you or learning how to fix it yourself.
The choice depends on what you want to learn and what resources are available.
At the very least you should remain aware of the hack and try and improve it once there is time to fix it for real. Altough as you are probably aware it is impossible to get everyone to upgrade to the patched map once it is released ...

and no I'm not persecuting anyone in particular.
I am merely trying to show those willing to listen that doing things 'the right way' will be good for anyone even though it might seem like 'more work' at first.
Careful planning and a proper design will result in better quality ... less bugs ... a more enjoyable experience for everyone.
