Yeah; so I heard.....

Epic Games Is Shutting Down 'Paragon'

Epic Games' Fortnite is up to 45 million players across all platforms, quickly becoming one of the most popular games in the world after the inclusion of its free-to-play Battle Royale mode. Epic Games' other big project, the MOBA Paragon? Not so much. The company had previously said that it was pulling staff from Paragon to assist with its burgeoning megahit, and now Epic is announcing that it's shutting the game down entirely. From the Paragon website:

“We truly appreciate everything you’ve put into Paragon. We received many passionate ideas for where to take the game; the outpouring of thoughtful suggestions is another testament to this incredible community,” reads a blog post attributed to the Paragon team. “After careful consideration, and many difficult internal debates, we feel there isn’t a clear path for us to grow Paragon into a MOBA that retains enough players to be sustainable. We didn’t execute well enough to deliver on the promise of Paragon. We have failed you — despite the team’s incredibly hard work — and we’re sorry.”

Epic is offering refunds for any purchases made on any platform, a remarkable move that feels made possible by a company that owns a massive non-game revenue stream.

It's sad to see a game go down, sadder still to see it happen so quickly, and sadder still to know that it's happening not just because the game was struggling on its own but because there was another, shiner game out there that's getting its resources. At least this isn't a game closure that's accompanied by a round of layoffs, as they so often are.

The game will continue to run until April 26, but it will be dying a slow death on its way to shut down -- "As the player population continues to decrease, matchmaking times and quality will further degrade," the website reads. If you wanted to check out this game but never did, it will probably be best to do so in the next few weeks. After that, consider moving over to Fortnite along with the Epic staff.
