All different places in south Asia I've visited in the past two weeks. My camera is a shitty finepix, but I've been learning my way through the manual settings. Most of these are just taken on 'auto' though.

The motorway shot was taken at nearly 180kmph, it was actually quite bright but my shutter speed had to be really low. The restaurant shot had a really high exposure since it was dark and I'm pleased with the result.

My camera is a ****ty finepix
I wouldn't worry. The best camera in the world is the one that you have in your hands when you have to take the shot. :)

My wife has a S2500HD and I know what the low light performance is like (pretty awful). The restaurant shot is far better than I would have expected. I think you are right to be pleased with the result.

The temple interior shot is quite something to look at. I like it a lot.

I don't know which Finepix you have but the restaurant shot shows the same defect as the S2500 - fairly significant barrel distortion at wider zooms (look at the lines on the left hand column). You could fix that

I have the HS20EXR. Yeah, I've managed to dodge it a few times, but I've not really worked out how to avoid the distortion itself. I could probably smooth it out in editing, but I'd rather not and shouldn't (really) have to.

Finally had a chance to sit down and scan a roll of film today. I've been trying to shoot this location many times, but there was always something in the shot I didn't want. Finally got what I wanted.

For extra budding nipple fun; can you find me in this photo?

Living in the state of near-eternal heat (let's face it, Florida summers are disgustingly hot, humid, sticky, buggy, rainy, and nasty overall, and winters are just basically slightly cooler), I had nearly forgotten it was winter elsewhere. I used to love looking at the intricacies of frost forming on the window when I was living in Maine.

Hey folks!

Unless you live under a rock I'm sure you have all heard about Nikons new D800.

I'm in a toss up right now whether I will upgrade to the D800E or the D3s. I will of course be keeping my D700. Lot of great features for wedding and dance photography but I'm just not sure the D800 will be the best fit for what pays the bills. I crave more detail, but I've gotta have better low light capabilities. D800 is only about 1/2 stops better. All the High ISO samples I've seen are beautiful at 6400. Much cleaner and they look outstanding when you down res them to D700 size.

Tough choice.. but at least I have 3 months to think about it.

I'm wondering what you guys think.
