I've already read the "reloading section" of the MP5 manual before... and since I didn't find any reference to this procedure, I decided to start this thread.

Try that. Although I am not sure if the bolt catch of the mp5a3.40S&W does change anything in the reload methods.

I don't think the bolt catch has anything to do with this... as I undrstand, it simply holds the bolt open after the last round is fired, it's intended to speed-up reloading (which helps in tactical situations)... after the new mag is put, you just have to press the decocker to have the round chambered and ready to fire, that's the same system found on AR-15 family weapons (M16, M4...).

Just compare the reload times of all 3 mp5s, You probably can't tell the difference when actually playing, mind you, but the thing that ticks me off is the HA-TCHA ninja chop action. Besides that, the fact that you waste ONE ROUND in order to get a full mag is like trying to compare the lifspan of a light bulb being shortened every time you open the current. If wasting one round really bothers you, don't reload after every 3-6 round burst, why not try and keep track of your shots and reload when you have too.

Seriously tho, every time I'm dead all I see are people walking around... the spot an enemy, shoot them dead with one burst and... reload. You know, the ammo you get doesn't add up in the end, you still have that same used clip. I really enjoy wating one of these compulsive reloaders near the end of every mag and go <fire><fire><fire> <click> <reload> <fire><fire> <click> <re.... die>

lol i think your talking about me......i do this because i need to be ready at all times.it would really suck to run out of ammo in the middle of nowhere while surrounded using a pistol o_O

According to the MP5 operating manual it is possible to fit 31 rounds into a 30-round magazine (page 25), but this will prevent it from inserting into the magazine well when the bolt is in the forward position. So if you load 30 rounds, you should have no problem observing the "bolt closed at all times"-rule. However, I don't know if this also applies to the MP5/10 and/or MP5/40 models as well.

Pages 25-26 in the manual describes the correct procedures for initial loading (clear the gun by locking the bolt handle in the rear position, insert magazine and then release bolt) and reloading (change the magazine, and if the chamber is empty, pull the bolt handle all the way back and release it). So the practice of clearing the weapon for every reload as seen in the game does seem a bit strange. The reason, according to the then-resident "expert" Shakken, was that a full magazine will not fit over a locked bolt, but both the operating manual as well as standard RNoAF practice (I asked an air force colleague that'd been issued an MP5A2 about this and he had no recollection of any such limitations) clearly contradict this.

Wasn't this discussed in a thread a long time ago? I seem to recall there being an issue related to a problem with animations or something like that, rather than the technical side of the actual, real life weapon. I also seem to recall Beppo explaining why it had to be done like that. I'm getting old and senile though and I could be way off base. As usual, everything I "remember" comes with a four page long disclaimer.

Well, from altering the MP5/40A3's (Or should it be called an MP5/40A5, since it has a 1-3-30 selector?) code for the INFMagCheck mutator this seems plausible. There are no animations suitable for a correct reloading procedure available as it is. IIRC, there are no animations for "hand releases magazine and returns to the foregrip" without either releasing the bolt hold-open catch or slapping the bolt handle first. And there are, of course, no animation at all for just tugging and releasing the bolt handle.

If it was just one member's 'expertise,' why did it still carry over to the bonus pack G3 made (I think) years later? Or did no one bring this up before?

That is a very interesting question indeed. I was under the impression that Beppo did most of the work on the G3A3 since he in all probability was issued one during his time in the Deutsche Bundeswehr and should know the proper way to reload one. As for myself, I did also tote a G3A3 during my time in the RNoAF, but I only did range-time with mine and then we'd always clear the weapon between magazine changes. Although we where very carefully drilled in never, ever, leaving the bolt open in 'field' conditions, I never got to actually try to insert a fully loaded mag on to a closed bolt, so I won't make a definite claim as to wether or not this can be done.
