From todays guardian......

When meat is not murder

It is the ultimate conundrum for vegetarians who think that meat is murder: a revolution in processed food that will see fresh meat grown from animal cells without a single cow, sheep or pig being killed.

Researchers have published details in a biotechnology journal describing a new technique which they hailed as the answer to the world's food shortage. Lumps of meat would be cultured in laboratory vats rather than carved from livestock reared on a farm.

Vegetarians might also be tempted because the cells needed to grow chunks of meat can be taken without harming the donor animal.

Experiments for Nasa, the US space agency, have already shown that morsels of edible fish can be grown in petri dishes, though no one has yet eaten the food.

Intresting to see peoples reactions. I mean there will be no death involved so no problem right?
-How.

Plants don't feel - you big silly.

And as for grown meat? That sounds disgusting.

I will continue to carve my steaks from the live cow. The pain and suffering only adds to the flavor.

Just wait till I find my magic staff. I'll turn you into a plant and rip your laves out one by one and laugh like a mad man while you feel horrible pain without having the means to express your feelings. MUAHAHAHAHAHA.

It's like with oil, sure we can make it in other ways, but it’s no where near as cheap.
Growing meat slabs in some laboratory, or lobbing off some cow’s head with a buzz saw?

I saw a better one.

A pick-up truck (the huge, elevated F-150 - with 13 or so wheels) with some 'Support Our Troops and Our President' stickers, and a 'GIT-R-DONE' sticker on the back hatch.

Damn it. Now everytime I eat a carrot I'm gonna "hear" it scream in agony.

Again proving that there is a Tool song for every occasion.

Disgustipated

And the angel of the lord came unto me
snatching me up from my place of slumber.
And took me on high and higher still
until we moved to the spaces betwixt the air itself.
And he brought me into a vast farmlands of our own midwest.
And as we descended cries of impending doom rose from the soil.
One thousand nay a million voices full of fear.
And terror possessed me then.
And I begged "Angel of the Lord what are these tortured screams?"
And the angel said unto me,
"These are the cries of the carrots, the cries of the carrots!
You see, Reverend Maynard,
tomorrow is harvest day and to them it is the holocaust."
And I sprang from my slumber drenched in sweat
like the tears of one million terrified brothers and roared,
"Hear me now, I have seen the light!
They have a consciousness, they have a life, they have a soul!
Damn you! Let the rabbits wear glasses! Save our brothers!"
Can I get an amen? Can I get a hallelujah? Thank you Jesus.
Life feeds on life feeds on life feeds on life feeds on........
This is necessary.
It was daylight when you woke up in your ditch.
You looked up at your sky then.
That made blue be your color. You had your knife there with you too.
When you stood up there was goo all over your clothes.
Your hands were sticky.
You wiped them on your grass, so now your color was green.
Oh Lord, why did everything always have to keep changing like this.
You were already getting nervous again.
Your head hurt and it rang when you stood up.
Your head was almost empty.
It always hurt you when you woke up like this.
You crawled up out of your ditch onto your gravel road and began to walk,
waiting for the rest of your mind to come back to you.
You can see the car parked far down the road and you walked toward it.
"If God is our Father," you thought, "then Satan must be our cousin."
Why didn't anyone else understand these important things?
You got to your car and tried all the doors.
They were locked. It was a red car and it was new.
There was an expensive leather camera case laying on the seat.
Out across your field, you could see two tiny people walking by your woods.
You began to walk towards them.
Now red was your color and, of course,
those little people out there were yours too.

Another good bumper sticker: If we aren't supposed to eat animals, why are they made of meat!?

There was a Sci-Fi book (Ravage, By René Barjavel) where food came from large chunks of meat grown in laboratory.
There were tons of funky inventions in this book (there was a room in every houseold where people kept there ancestors stuffed), but I thought the meat production thingy was one the least probable ones to ever exist. I guess I was wrong :con:

The cattle are 'raised' and then 'slaughtered'. You don't grow the meat (yet)

Those animals have to martyr themselves for the greater good (sandwiches)..

Perhaps a better way to phrase it would've been - 'Materialized meat sounds disgusting.' Besides, it's cheating.

Don't try to catch me on a technicality unless you're willing to do some work.

P.S. 'The Omega Man' was a much better movie (Charlton Heston gets it on with a 'sistuh').
