Gamespy is the latest to catch up with Epic Games' Pres, Mike Capps, to talk about the EA deal to publish the new game for their subsidiary studio, People Can Fly. In addition to acknowledging that the game will have a multiplayer component (shocking!), he confirms that the game will ship three platforms simultaneously.

Mike Capps: It's the kind of game you'd expect. I mean, Painkiller was the game that was chosen to be the main competition game for the CPL. It's Fatality's favorite game to play for competition. That's the stuff they do really well, the multiplayer deathmatch type of stuff. We'd be kind of stupid to throw away their expertise in that area...

... I think we'll ship them all [PS3, PC, Xbox 360] at the same time. Our tech is pretty mature now, so it's safe to say that all versions will be on the same timeline. The did an Xbox port of Painkiller at one point, so they've made a console game before and with the Gears PC stuff, they were working on the Xbox 360 a lot, so we're pretty confident about it. The PS3 is the only platform they haven't shipped on, but we've got a lot of expertise there so it shouldn't be a problem. Luckily, the problem now is making cool games, not worrying about the tech anymore. We're past that stage in the generation.

Shipping all at the same time? Worries me a little bit. They had trouble shipping UT3 on just two platforms.

Eh well not really since all they've done is releasing one and a half actually ;)

Hehe but doesn't everyone wanna see Reaper taking vengeance (déjá vu) over the Necris for killing off his fellow Ronin (hmm familiar again) in a super-awesome ultra-kickass expansion pack...? We could always have maps like Necris-Necris Torlan and Necris-Necris-Necris Serenity with Necris-Necris-Necris-Necris Islander! :mwink:

EDIT: Oops I got a little carried away... So erm yeah. People Can Fly made grinding. Epic made carnage. This means mass genocidal slaughter. Gotta love it!!

Now the only question left to be answered is:

Strafe Jumping or Dodging?

Which movement system will they use?

Only one of these movement styles can result in fast action fps play, unless the maps are really small, or there are environmental gameplay mechanics that propel players quicker.

Painkiller with Epic's usual colorful visual styles and either movement style or even a combo of the 2 will be great probably a bit too fast but hell I think it's time both dodging and correct strafe jumping will be great.Just my only question is will they improve apon the net code from the painkiller days and UT3?And also since mike capps said something about the new ip probably going in a direction with more of a feminine roll, kinda makes me wonder how much order will blend in with the chaos lol

Well thats a good start.

Strafe Jumping or Dodging?

While that was one of the first questions i asked myself. The second was, "what will work on a console?"

I'm still hopeful for strafe jumping though.
