Loibisch posted that he was having a skip pixel problem with this new mouse.... I think this mouse rocks but I am having a problem somewhat along the same lines. Try this with your mouse right now....move it to the far right/middle of your screen... now at a fast pace scroll to the left....does it move in a left, down, then left motion when you go fast? try it the opposite way and it moves right, up, right....for me anyways does it do it for you guys too??? sometimes when i move my mouse really fast it goes majorly berzerko! running USB win98 2nd edition. newest 3.0 drivers too.

I've tried and tried, but cannot get it to track abnormally at all.

This mouse is very "particular" about the surface it is "seeing." I have tried quite a few different surfaces, and found that my generic, dark blue cloth pad works perfectly.

You may want to try different surfaces.

Btw, I absolutely LOVE this mouse.

It deffinately has to do with the surface. I was not using a mouse pad at first and I occasionally got that skipping. Now I have the everglide optical mouse pad and it totaly rocks! No more skipping and VERY precise control.

OK. Lots of posts on this issue before. Had the same problem: weird acting movement under stressful conditions. Did 2 things:
1. Got PS2Rate.exe which upgrades mouse info refresh rate for PS/2 connected mouse (somewhere in http://www.bluesnews.com I think)
Problem NOT solved.
2. Got a cloth mousepad with NO drawings on it (previous was one from some art museum)
Problem solved.

Maybe I'm out of my league here but when I first got my Intellimouse Explorer, I was experiencing similar problems. It's basically in how you hold your mouse, if when you play UT you are laid back in your chair, and holding the mouse in a certain angle (Hand proportionate to surface) it will act differently then if you are sitting up close later on, moving it on the desktop.

When I first had that problem, all I did, is assume a position that i would more than likely be using while playing Q2 (At the time UT was not out) and I launched the program that comes with the mouse that helps you configure your mouse. I corrected the problem by moving that little race-car from down to up. (I'm sorry I'm not more technical, but I'm not at my PC and don't know what tab that option is under). Try doing that if you havn't already.

Again, remember the first sentence before flamming me for my ignorance /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif. "I may be out of my league here but..." /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif

it's all in the surface baby. Remember, the mouse uses reflected light to work. Get something with a VERY fine pattern (like a solid color cloth) so that when the light scans, it's reflected in the same color and wavelength as the previous scan. Also get a flat surface (read:not shiny) so that the light is RE-flected, not DE-flected.
FYI, I use a trackman marble. I hate mice.

I tried a lot of things to help the intelli eye from jumping the cursor around including a dark 3M precision mouse pad. I have finally settled on a cover to a Mead Five Star notebook(spiral bound paper notebook) I cut dark green plastic cover from the notebook then taped it to my desk. Best mouse pad yet, a little squirrely at first (kinda like trying to ice skate for the first time) but when you get used to it its fast and smooth.

I'm using the USB flavor with Win98SE and a grey Fellowes mousepad with gel wristrest (very small mousing surface but no anomolies).

The only thing I noticed is that can't overclock my celery from 400 to 522 anymore without having UT lock up at some point. I'm going to reinstall Win98SE over the top of everything with the mouse installed and try it again. I'm waiting to hear about getting a gel wristrest for the new Everglide Giganta mousepad.

Hey Rooster

I've now plugged this Inttelli to my USB. I think it's a little better (could be subjective) but still not perfect! I've tried your settings and they are way too slow for me (especially when moving, aiming is good) but when I set the sensitivity to a higher rate again, the mouse still skips a few pixels when moving (and it's not the surface).

If the mouse was only a little bit "faster" by itself (as my friends' old mice)...
The camera shoots 1500 pics/sec. So why is it at a refresh rate of 125Mhz SLOWER than other NON high tech mice?

Try this. Use the Intelli at a increased sensitivity (about two above normal) and then use a normal mouse (bring it to the same speed). Feel the difference? The "normal" mouse seems "smoother"

If someone could explain that to me I would be really happy.

I don't want to miss all those buttons and the wheel.

You guys sure are wasting a lot of time, not to mention money, on something that's really no better than a regular mouse. TAKE IT BACK and buy something that's worth the bones.

SinnerGod, I have my Explorer plugged into a PS/2 port (anyone have an extra USB hub laying around?). I am running Win98SE.

Astro, why would you say that it's no better than a regular mouse? Do you have an Explorer mouse?

Loibisch, I really can't explain to you why your mouse "skips." I've tried really hard, and cannot get mine to skip at any sensitivity settings. If you really have ruled out the surface, maybe you do have a faulty mouse.

Astro:
"no better than a regular mouse"? I respectfully disagree.

My mousing accuracy has increased very noticably. Using the USB port and Win98SE, I've risen from sucking to stinking. In fact, I can't blame the mouse anymore at all. It's all me, unfortunately. /~unreal/ubb/html/wink.gif It takes alot to impress me, but this product impresses me. It's not a silver bullet, but it *is* as advertised, IMO.

Astro-Mang nothing personel But I really have to dissagree with you on this one. Not because of the brand of mouse but because of the use of the USB port versus the ps/2 port.
Even with the ps/2 tweek the fastest refresh rate you can get is 200hz whereas the USB runs a lot higher(I don`t know the exact refresh maybe some of the more technical people here can help). All I do know is since getting a USB mouse (no name mentioned) my head shoot count in face CTF has jumped and it is not because I`m getting better it is because, with a USB mouse and the higher refresh rate when someone is running and dodging you can lock on and pop. Chalk up another one...
PS 1) I don`t snipe Spawners unless they snipe me spawning, then its out and out war, and the corp taught me how to snipe very well..
Ps 2) All you guys using a USB mouse with the ps/2 adapter you don`t know what your missing, but please don`t change it makes it so much easier for me..EVIL GRIN....
