yo yo yo peoples
i just got 128 more memory for my
iMac G3 Indigo
350mhz. I have found several things online that show instructions to install memory but they are always for the very very original iMac, not mine that came directly after it. in the first steps to open up my comp, the bottoms look different in small ways than the picture such as where the screws are. My mom wont let me go by it cuz she is afraid i will wreck the comp! anyone know a good site that could help me?

thanks lata!

Although I'm not a Mac user I don't think installing memory would be much different then in a PC. But I would inform your mom that if she wants to, she can pay the $80 or so that most places charge to put it in. It's quite rediculous if you ask me the prices they charge for something that takes 15 mins. And most places want you to leave your computer there.

But check if theres some sort of manual that came with your computer? Usually they show pics and steps for opening it up.

i agree, most places charge WAY too much for something so simple. that's not to say you can't wreck your computer during the process though...

anyway, just to check, it's definitely Indigo and not Blueberry right? and is the cd-rom slot loading or the tray?

If my memory serves me correctly; all iMacs from the second generation (revision B) and beyond use the same system (but I KNOW this is the case for an Indigo).

----------

At the back of the iMac, near the bottom the the computer, you'll see a small panel with a coin screw on it (a big flat disc with a flat linear grove through the centre). Unplug power cord from the iMac (AFTER TURNING IT OFF), and then use a coin (or similar device) to rotate that, whivh will release the panel.

Once the panel is open, you'll see 2 ram slots right there inside (and that's all you see IIRC). One of those slots should be filled, and the other empty with a plastic clip at either end of the slot. Make sure those slips are open. Then simply line-up the RAM chip with the empty slot, and push it into place until the clips closed around it.

There you go, the RAM is installed. Before closing the panel, plug the power cord back in, and boot her up. When the system is booted, go to the Apple menu and select "About This Computer" and look under the listing "Built In RAM". It should list 128MB of memory + whatever you had in there before as a total. If that's the case, simply close the panel and screw it back into place.
