Making maps for UWRC?

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

Hello all, I really love Unwheel and would love to know how to make maps for it, so just wondering if there is any documentation for it or anything like that, or if someone could direct me to the objects in the actors menu. Thanks.

If you want to start on something before the document is fixed, just take a peek at one of the provided maps and see how they made it all work. I have a map on my machine that does work without errors for Unwheel right now, but I didn't path it yet and am still perfecting it. It's pretty easy, just get a good solid idea in your head and refine it on paper before building. ;)

Mapping guide

I was able to get the mapping guide small enough to upload to the forum buy using winrar on it, but I had to change the file extension to .doc in order for it to be considered a valid file type. So just rename it to .rar and it should be fine.

Yeah I need to update that guide, but fixing my maps comes first guys.

Alright, I've got the basics for mapping with it now :) . I am amazed at how flat you got terrain on some levels with using the sloped roads. Were you patient or did you photoshop the greyscale maps or something?

I was vrry veerry patient. (I used a strength setting of about 11 for painting terrain and less for smoothing at one point)

Alright, thanks for the help ProjectX, I'm working on what will hopefully be a very fun track, will probably post some information on it in a couple weeks (All I have now is the layout and an arctic theme I'm trying to put with it).

Hey, Welcome to our forums. One of our mappers,Project X, made a mappers guide for the public in June.

You can get it here:
http://download.beyondunreal.com/fileworks.php/unwheel/res/uw_mapping_guide.pdf

Edit: this link appears to be dead atm. Will get it fixed asap.

if you read 5 posts down in this thread, a post by diego1203, you will see the mapping guide is in the post as an attachment.

any other place I might get the .doc from (that I can open in WordPad or NotePad)? The less MS software I have to install, the better.... :D
I haven't messed with the UED-2k4 yet, but I know how to use UED2. I assum it's pretty much the same but with more stuff (stuff is cool) and ofcourse th 2k4 engin. I'd like to take a stab at an UnWheel map. ;)

You don't like reading much do you Jack :p Save the file to your desktop, rename it with a .rar extension, open it with winrar, inside is a .pdf file, which is the actual document.

It won't teach you any new UEd3.0 stuff, just UnWheel stuff, so for terrain tutorials and emitter topics etc. I'd suggest the wiki:

Ahhh, the BeyondUnreal wiki! It helped me so much with my feeble starts in UT2004 coding!

I am already looking forward to see what nice things you can start with UnrealEd! Post some screenshots that make us drool, and keep up the working pace you start with! We are going to provide you with the needed motivation.

== UED RANT==
It's not that UnrealEd would be the crappiest piece of software ever made, but I don't have positive feelings towards its resource-hungry, one-sided (based on MFC which runs only on Windows), crashy architecture. And I like declaring default variables in the code files.

*hugs Notepad and UCC, his biggest partners in coding for UT2004*

that wasn't the problem...I didn't have a .pdf viewer installed sence I last formated my hard drive. I installed adobe and now I can read it.
Thanx anyways
;)
I could have opened it in Linux (Mandrake 10), but it would be pointless. 2k4 is on my windoze (2000 Pro) drive. So I wouldn't be able to access it while useing the editor.
