Jailbreak 2004 Tournament - General Info

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. Because it's sideways, instead of a standard front/back map.

Regular Jailbreakers have a big advantage in Galactica (but then that still counts for Cosmos too, I sse people still banging their head against the glass when trying to reach the base :D )

Look, Galactixa is not complex. Besides, you can go into Instant Action and do a fly around to find out where all the hallways lead! You could even do that before an online match! You are only bloviating by saying it is too complex. Secondly, saying Chrusher 2 is too small is also bloviating. We had 6 captures last time on I played it on the lockdown. the only maps that should not be available are Arlon and Sub Zero. I have not had any problem with Alarscia, but if some people have bugs on it, then fine exclude it too. Maps without bug problems should be allowed. By taking Chrusher 2 away, you are taking away my home town right there. I dominate on that map and it has no problems at all. Besides, let's remember this is only 5 on 5 not like a lockdown's 7 on 7 or 8 on 8. A simple 5 on 5 will do fine in Chursher 2. For Galactica, the stage is fine. Why are we bloviating to the Jailbreak Community on why we can't play certain maps? Some have bug problems yet to be fixed fine; however maps without such should not be excluded for such petty reasons. I will fight on Chrusher 2 in that tourney. So, prove me wrong. Give me one GOOD reason why I cannot play on those maps.

Hmm, sounds like a mutator is needed that automatically switches the bases after every capture (at least for the 'uneven' maps).

As for the 'confusing' maps, I find that almost all maps are confusing until I have time to play them. You may not have had the time to get used to maps like Galactica.

By the way, Cavern has the crashing problem too. No one ever notices it though because its hardly ever played.

And I'd hope that Crusher wouldnt be voted for either. At the JELP 2004 the "finals" of the tournament were played on Crusher. It was just spammy, even with 5on5. No skill is required apart from the ability to hold down your Fire button... just my opinion.

imho u should disallow those maps:
cavern & alarscia (huge & boring)
crusher2 (spamfest)
oasis (vehicles)
eternalcaves & gauntlet (uneven)

i think frostbite, galactica & snifam are ok.

dunno about arlon & subzero

Maybe it's wise to exclude some maps from the mapvote. This can be due to different reasons (too small/spammy, vehicles, uneven bases, too new/complex, too easy to defend, laggy). If you say all maps are allowed, it's OK by me too.
Why make this a democratic process ;), two days to go :eek:, just lay down the rules as you see fit.

i think all maps with eagle bases should be allowed, only JB-Alarscia is just 2 big.

as for the games i think 2 maps with 20 minutes is better then 3 maps with 15 minutes.
2 maps and 20 minutes is standard for most tournaments.

That's why you as a DF-member play in the PIPGN CTF-ladder where a game consists of 3 maps of 15 minutes ;)

Chrusher 2 being spammy? Ha! Please, players who don't know what their doing are gonna be spawning in jail a lot. Also it's not a matter of holding down the fire button. The hallways are tight, forcing any open field players to play a more stategic game. Look, I think all maps, except for ones with video problems and/or bugs should be allowed. If a team picks a home map and you say they can't play on it cause other people don't like it, then why pick maps in the first place? The whole point of having a 3 map system is for one team to pick a map they are really good on or like, the other to do the same, and for both teams to agree on one. If people don't like a map a team chooses, um tough. That's the whole point of a multi-round (as in 2 games of 20 or 3 games of 15) tournament. The tournament should be run this way (not trying to command how it should be run) because it forces teams to adapt to all maps in the rotation that work properly. Excluding maps cause of simple dislikes or turnaways is ridiculous. This is a Jailbreak tournament looking for the best Jailbreak team good at Jailbreak overall, on all maps, not just on the ones certain people like. I hope I have not offended anybody but this is my opinion, and I shall stick by it. By the way, not to sound vulgar or anything along those lines but I chose the word bloviating because, although the dictionary says to speak in a bosatful or pompous, it really is a polite and non-vulgar way of saying bull****. Anywho, I did not notcie any problems on Cavern. What problems have people been having? Also believe it or not, I have problems with Aswan sometimes, and the game chrashes cause of spider mine karma problems. I will post this porblem shortly on a new post here. One more thing. A video card problem with vehicles? Come on guys how "old" does is or does the video card have to be?
