Maybe you weren't forcing AA on your old machine? Ideally you'd be able to run some benchmarking software on the old and new machines to see if there is a genuine difference.

Forced AA = my first guess.

Perhaps the drivers you are using tank performance w/ AA.

Either way, turn off AA until you get it figured out; it drops fps bigtime when on IME.

Maybe the Nvidia drivers he is using just don't like UT3. Did you check and make sure all the processes and services he has running are really necessary and not bogging the system down? Did you try turning off the sound and see what happens? I'll check Shangri La tonight.

If you're using Win7 64bit, try this.

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Unreal Tournament 3\Binaries\UT3.exe" -onethread

Just tag the -onethread part on the end of a shortcut and tell me if it works. I'm running a nearly identical system and this was the culprit when I moved to Win7 from XP - Although, XP ran UT3 a little better (I still like it more).

Hell, something is definitely fishy here - even in the pre match explore mode (no bots), looking accross the Shangri La courtyard renders 63fps. 63fps in an empty map? That's absurd.

I've got the same video card and slower RAM/CPU, and I get about 45 fps during a game when standing on the bridge looking towards the back of the map where the shield belt is. It's about the same with forced AA, maybe a trifle less.

So maybe it is normal?

Per your instructions, this is what I got:
- 82 was the lowest FPS with stat fps command hopping around central area and up around edge of this area; I think it averaged around 95 or more.
- 105 looking toward fighting warrior statues at other side of map from main blgd. area
- 92 looking from warrior statues back half-way between bldgs and mountain.

I set it on 5 bots (which would actually be 6 total combatants), but it doesn't make much difference either way. not sure what your OS is but I would expect Vista or 7 to be slightly less.

That sounds about right...UT3 was designed with Vista/7 in mind, iirc. After all, Epic released this a few months after Vista, and was the first game designed natively for it. I'm not saying that Epic didn't have XP backwards compatibility in mind, but it just seemed to be made for the future.

V-Sync also cap frame rate. Before I turned mine off I had a constant 60fps. Maybe this 42.5fps is because your monitor runs at 85fps? Once I started playing without, I instantly got well above 100fps in most situations.

Do you get low FPS in other games too?

Please read my previous post by the way :)
