Is there a OpenGL patch for Unreal GOLD?

I had Unreal 1 that I patched with the 226F. Because Unreal GOLD was so cheap and Unreal is one of my favorite games, I bought it and gave my original away.

I see that there is no OpenGL mode in the GOLD version like there was with the patched original, and was wondering if there is a patch to get it back. I tried installing the 226F patch, but it does not work with the GOLD version. I like OpenGL mode because the shadows look crappy under DirectX.

I also have UT GOTY and fortunataly it DOES have the OpenGL mode and looks AWESOME with no shadow uglyness.

I have a AMD 1GHz\Radeon 64 btw. Thanks for your replys :)

What do you mean by "shadow uglyness"? I have a Radeon also and use D3D for Unreal Gold. My shadows look like...umm, shadows. But I have never seen OpenGL shadows. What's better about them?

And also, after reading a few posts about patching Unreal Gold for OpenGL, it seems like a risky proposition--game freezes and crashes posts. Is it worth it? Will Unreal Gold run faster in OpenGL? I'd like to try it though...but I'm new to this and concerned that I'd do something (stupid) that would make the game unplayable. What do you think?

If for example your in a darken corner and look at a wall, it looks like red and green blobs. Something to the effect of rust. In OpenGL mode the shadows have detail.

Glare coming from lights\torches seemed more realistic also.

you have to know that the opengl patch is 224v based because of the code which is only in that version availble; this wouldnt be a problem since i reworked lot of it but i don't know atm a way to patch unreal gold with it, because you cant patch unreal gold to version 224 - if the performance of opengl is better than d3d belongs to your grafix card and the drivers you use, u need to check out, but for myself i think opengl looks much more beautifull then d3d, except one bug which isnt fixed yet, the black borders on trees.

I noticed that the OpenGL driver IS in the Unreal GOLD directory(ver 226b). But for some reason, it does not show up in the "Preferences" menu as a rendering choice.

I changed it very simply. Open UNREAL.INI with Notepad and change the "GameRenderDevice=" from "D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice" to "OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice"

You can use the "Preferences" to change it back to DirectX, if you want. But I'm a confirmed Unreal\Unreal Tournament Opengl user.

I also found that the newer Radeon drivers crashed the original Unreal under OpenGL mode, but I have been using the 7093 driver just fine.

No more ugly shadows. I'm happy again :D
