Is it just me or does Windows XP really blow

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

Microsoft of course came out with the "best operating system" ever because it had the Stability of windows 2000 and the campatability of Windows Me. Well this is from my own personally experience, Windows XP still locks up on my just as much maybe a little less then windows ME did and for the majority of the big program names will work on XP but alot of my smaller ones wont and for god sakes did they have 5 year old advisors tell them to make those icons so macish. And the recycling bin is in the bottum right hand corner for the origionalk settings. This is just my opinion but i think Macintosh (those evil things that should not be called computers) and Microsoft are going to merge and make a super crappy company called Macrosoft. well thats just my opinion what do u think.

win98 doesn't can't read the New Technology File System file format, therefor it isn't the best. win2K is the most stable windows platform to date and is built upon NT technology. It has the very best in network capabilites. All of which win98 doesn't have.

therefor win2K is the best.

I have said it before and I will keep saying it..
X/P ROCKS..
it has all of the great features that Win2K has..NTFS, Admin tools, supports roaming user profiles, all of the ease that 98SE has....some of the drawbacks...the online reg.. but that isn't as bad as the press makes it.. real easy.. ..it also takes more RAM more HD space... and has some homing beacons on it.. but check the Trouble Shooting forums for some fixes on that..

What programs are locking up..
What file system are you using
did you do a clean install or upgrade..

win98 is completely useless!
Max runs **** slow on it, you waste a LOT of your system resources
UT takes ages to start
Blue screen every 5 minute
etc etc

win2k is the most stable OS, but XP is faster when you tweak it

run win98 for 2 weeks, you wont survive, run 2k for 2 months, you will survive if you tweaked it good, wich makes that 2k is the best atm imo, stablest, good driver support and program support, and lots of option for controling the system

or try running a pc with more then 128 ram with win98, you can, but you can never fully use the system his true power then

and xp is too new, not enough support for both progs as drivers, and its too buggy still, if you have a prob with win2k you can download hundreds of patches and tweaks, you cant for xp, cause its to new, not enough stuff avaible yet, xp might become good in some months, but it isnt atm

uummm
the wasted resources in 98SE can be recovered if you tweak the OS as well..
try running msconfig.. and that would be a good place to start recovering some of you resources..
My UT gets up and running in about 20 secs..on 98..
about 35 while running X/P in an NTFS enviroment..
about the same on 2K
and I can't remember the last time I got the BSOD..
and just to let you know..
98 box.. 733 PIII w/512 RAM + 32 on the video card
2K box.. 1.2 T-Bird w/600 RAM +32 on the card
X/P box 1.4 T-Bird w/768 RAM +32 on the card
you can get rid of the BSOD by regularing runnig disc clean up, defrag, and some form of system mechanic..

when I first loaded up 2K server.. there were hardly any drivers that I used preloaded on the cd.. Same with adv. server..
but when I loaded X/P on the cheapest box that could be built.. X/P had ALL the drivers for even the crappy SiS video card that I put in it..

You might want to check your watch..
try tweakxp.com
it isn't the job of the OS creator to support programs and hardware.. it's the other way around.. the hardware/software creators make upgrades and patches based on the popularity of the various OSs'
the drivers/patches are all around..all you have to do is go to the mfgs. websites.. but the only one that I have heard about that x/p dosen't support OFTB is for some burning software.. like adaptec
but there is even an upgrade for that now.. less than 2 months later..
BTW.. X/P does come with it's own burning program.. not great.. but it is there..

Hey Bang.. how about moving this thread to Trouble Shooting
