Introducing EVARENA

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

Greetings,

After two years of developement in secret, we are now ready to start talking publicly about our project.

We are developing a Mod for Unreal Tournament 2004, that is based on the popular manga Neon Genesis Evangelion and is called EVARENA!

http://www.planetunreal.com/evarena/

We want to thank PlanetUnreal for hosting our site, we are very proud about that.

In Evarena you become the pilot of a giant robot called EVA and you get to battle other Evas in the traditionnal Deathmatch gameplay. The Evas possess some special powers which give a new twist to the game and make it unique from Unreal Tournament.

We are all studying in the same University and we are doing this game as our bachelor’s degree synthesis project. We must have a demo ready for the end of April 2005. We'll do our best to make a Beta available during the first week of May. We then intend to complete the game early this summer and have a worldwide release on the Internet early August 2005 with support, fixes and updates to the project until 2006.

This project is not a "big" project, we intend to do a small, fun, high-quality mod, not a Counter-Strike killer :)

For the present time we are not looking to include new members to our team. Well, not untill our degree is over.

A forum should be available soon on the website and we hope that a small community of Evarena enthusiasts will grow.

We'll work hard to make it known as the funniest mod ever!

So please hit the website link above and we hope you will like our project concept.

Good looking content but I've got to agree w/ Death Cube K. There's been a string of mods recently that have acquired a taste for licensed IP.

I'm glad you liked what you've seen thus far. At least, you all seem to like it more than this guy from the Epic Boards:

http://epicboards.ign.com/General_Discussion/b10667/18784537/?2

BooGiTyBoY: You seem to like the ImpactHammer? I like it a lot too. You will love the Lance of Longinus, it's simply too powerful! I'll have to tweak it down. I get at least a Mega-Kill everytime I grab the Lance.

Death Cube K: I'm not sure what you mean exactly, would you mind explaining your point of view again? I'm aware that using a licence even for non-lucrative projects can cause problems. We really hope that Gainax won't get angry against us. When the Beta will be completed we'll contact them (if they haven't killed us at this point) and politely and camly explain that we just want to help them make Evangelion known to their target audience in North-America. And that in no circumstance we use Evangelion elements for commercial use, we won't sell anything.

Tenkken: Ok I get it you're sarcastic right? The Beta will feature Unit-00/01/02/03 available in 5 colors, blue, red, purple, black and white.

Thank you all and I'll keep the website updated every week.

Lots of mod projects get shot down with cease and desists anyway dude just because of the market it's being released into.

I.E. if Gainax ever wanted to make an Eva game you would be free competition. Thats why Funimation shot down the Bid For Power mod for Quake3. It rocked... it was fun... and they were afraid if it was released noone would actually pay money for a DBZ game if they could DL that one for free. They just throw copyright infringement as an excuse...

Looking forward to the mod completely and the lance ;)

Oh and if you'llnotice that jackhole in the epic forums has a signature that says:
[Owner and Founder]
[Magnetichead Software]

Of course someone who "owns and founded" a software company is gonna be gung-ho negative about something like this. He's probablly just jealous his "company" is nothing but him and his moms computer making text-based adventures while your team has a great project with some real meat to it. ;)

Death Cube K

You'll be seeing him alot.

I was echoing Boo's entheusiasm with my first remark.

Don't mean to be negative or anything, but I'm fairly certain you'll get shot down by ADV as soon as they find out about it. There's supposedly a new EVA game that may or may not get ported to PS2. The fact that you aren't going to be selling anything won't make a difference. Case in point, Bid For Power, the example Boo gave.
