If UT2007 leaked...

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

Would you download a leak of Ut2007?

  • Definitely. And I'd even write a revew on my blog!

  • Sure. It's a bit immoral though, so I won't brag about it.

I'm sure they did something fairly stupid to get caught too. Like distributing it.

Besides, you never know, other future information may lead me to change my mind, I'm not signing any paperwork here.

Last leak I got, I was handed a pair of CD's for, and didn't have to even search or d/l it. We played it LAN, not online or anything, and no one was the wiser. I purchased the game the day of release. I didn't go blabbing about it on forums.

If I got a leak (not that I would look for one, but assuming someone gave it to me) I wouldn't brag about or distribute it, nor will I try to find people to play against. I would probably enter a level and see what EPIC is doing and how the game is shaping up. I would then try to spawn in a shock rifle and see if they stuck to the queer model we see before us currently. Besides, since it runs on the U3 engine, if you were to get a leak that would probably guarantee you as a buyer, cause you know its gonna be beautiful.

Take a scenario where someone gets a hacked version of a game, AFTER buying the game, would they care if you got the hacked version?

Now if someone got a hacked version BEFORE buying a game, and then decided to buy it. Was this act negative or positive towards EPIC?
I believe that the only thing that matters in business are your sales. As long as you get the sale whatever shady doings your customer performed before or after you got the sale are inconsecuencial, as long as those things don't include distribution.

Another question to consider, if someone has more than one computer in his/her home, both of which are good enough to play a certain game that the one user purchased, is it wrong to put the game on both computers? even if this means having to alter the game in some way to bypass the CD-key problem? It is one user, the game is not being distributed, the game is not being used for LAN play, is this the wrong thing to do?

Leaks are good to see the direction a game WAS going. Usually, it's better to get them after the game already came out when the company isn't likely to care as much about it.

Like the 2k3 leak. I have them, but I already bought the game (and 2k4) several times. They made plenty of money off of me, but it's neat to see the direction the game could have (and IMO should have) gone.

Exactly. Personally, I think it shouldn't be a bad thing to have leaks of a game that has long since expired. Some companies believe in this too...

on http://www.planetmirror.com, you can find roughly ten different beta versions of the original Doom. id Software freely gave them away. I'm hoping they do the same with the Quake3 IHV leak, because I've always wanted to see it but never got a chance to (the IHV had three levels...only one was an actual level - the other two were like shader test levels).
