INF 2.9 runs on the UT engine (yes, 'UT99'). If you can run Half-Life, you can most likely run this game. The 'game' for Source won't be out for a while - so you needn't worry about it for now.

However, the system requirements for 2.9 were much higher than the previous version...

Basically, if your computer was purchased within the past two years (and has a moderately decent video card) - it should run it, no problem.

It will help if you post your exact specs though.

For added performance, it's recommended that you use the Chris Dohnal's OGL renderer - and tweak the settings appropriately (there is a guide stickied on these forums).

I can run BF2, UT2K5, Doom3, HL2, CS:S, Far Cry and all the new games coming out in the next year, but I still play INF the most. The only game that I enjoy on a similar level is Hitman: Contracts. Of course I don't use the sniper rifles, machine guns, pistols, knives or blunt objects. I use only my string. Mmm... String.

Anyways, I hope you try INF2.9 and like it more than CS 1.6. It has a great weapon/aiming system and interesting mission modes. The only problem is a general lack of players. They all moved on to the fancy newer games.

The Hitman: Contracts game was dumb.

I am a super assassin, but I can't do any planning for the mission and I can't pick what I am bringing. WTF

Why can't I start out in disguise, why do I always have to get one lying around or subdue someone for it. When knocking someone out, why can't I just choke them? If not choke, why not just hit them? Using a syringe is stupid, there is no way that would work IRL.

There are only 1 or 2 ways to do anything in the game. There is nothing creative about it, the entire game revolves around trying to figure out what the game designer wants you to do.

Of course, you can just blast your way through the levels, but then I might as well just play any other action game.

I want a more complete assassin game. One where YOU get to plan the mission, what will your cover and alias be? how will you procure proper identification? When (morning, noon, evening, night?) and where (work, home, car, plane, public?) is the proper time to strike at the target? Also what will the mode of assassination be? sniping, poison, bomb, close range?
Also intelligence work: Who can you bribe, who can you threaten/coerce, who must you torture?

You should be able to do almost anything, the only limitation being money. You are a buisiness man first, assassin second. If this is your living, you have to make money. Equipment, weapons, back up or teammate assassins, disguises all should be bought before hand.

Your're right of course. The developers themself said they made only little conceptual improovement from the first game till the last, but they plan to make immense chages in the fourth Hitman game 'Hitman: Blood Money', which I extremely look toward.

The AI will always react on blood, follow the blood path. Guard will pick up lying weapions and look around to check the area. Civilians will call for police or guard when they see blood and weapons. You will be able to confuse AI by throwing something into a direction where they will move to check it out.
You will be able to climb, take what ever clothes you can. You will be able to grab most objects in the surrounding to beat the victim. You will be able to chocke, and take someone like a shield (like in Splinter Cell). You will be able to push someone off a bridge, or roof to make it look like an accident.
And much more. I really loook toward this game, I´m so hot on it :D.

They were to much leak in the previous hitman game, but I rather enjoyed the cinematic feel, the athmosphere and realism of the game.

The Bourne movies reminded me so much on the hitman games, man I love this movies (supremacy especially).
I even have a signature on a hitman forum from the movie with 47 in it ;)
