Help with Hosting

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

Hey most honorable BuF peeps.. I need help with a problem I'm having when trying to host a private game from my machine. Whenever another player is attempting to connect to my ip, they just get the "connecting" message with the black screen but they are never able to connect. My setup is :

XP Home
P4 1.8
512k Ram
ATI 9600 AIW
Brighthouse cable connection into a Linksys wirless router for sharing

I check the ip each time, I turn the Firewall off in XP but no luck..

Is ti something to do with the Firewall in the router?

Thanks for any help! - L

OK, here's the standard question: did you forward the necessary ports? The default ports are

7777 UDP/IP (Game Port)
7778 UDP/IP (Query Port)
7787 UDP/IP (GameSpy Query Port)
28902 TCP/IP (Allows your Server to Connect to the UT2004 Master Server Browser)
xxxx TCP/IP (Port set via ListenPort that your WebAdmin will run on)
This is only a snippet from unrealadmin.org. You can find the whole server setup guide here.

EDIT: in case you are not familiar with port forwarding here's a cool page that explains it step by step for a variety of different routers. It's called portforward.com.
