Onslaught is a race it is all about timing and taking nodes and attacking the enemy nodes with the correct strategy i know i play on a ladder and most maps are over in less than 2 min(that means the end result is already been written ) even if the game goes on for like 6 min bah i thing it sucks...but i must admit xmp2 as it is now is no better it has the potential but as of this time it is no better due to bugs ...so i wait

i must admit that onslaught, while fun initially, was really boring in a pub environment.

xmp = much deeper game
ons = much more noob friendly

if xmp can add noob friendly elements while retaining the core strategies, it will certainly have more success.

BAH i hate this ONS bashing... I played ONS in competition and my team was #1... we won tournies and ladders and leagues... and i will tell you that if you watch two good ONS teams go at it it is very different from pub play.... when a team of 6 players are all on voice communicating with each other, have their strats down pat and all know how to compliment the other players it is a thing of beauty.

as for pub play... dear lord i will agree with everyone here that it is awful... but this is because ONS if very noob friendly... players love vehicles and like dicking around in them... that and the fact that pubs in general do not have any real team work and learning the basics of the game is relatively easy that is why a lot of people think ONS sucks...

Now do i think XMP is more complex? No it is just as complex.... ONS and XMP are totally different.... you cant really compare them... 1 is veary heavily bases on vehicles while the other has vehicles but being on foot is a bigger part...so saying 1 game is more complex than the other is pretty hard to do...

will i keep playing ONS? yes because it is where i got my start and i still love playing it... will i play XMP more? probably because it is more exciting pub play to me since i am no longer with a team...

i just wish people would give ONS more of a chance... it really isnt that bad a game type...

i think sweetooth is probably right; as my opinion of ons is based largely on pub play.

i do however wish that the conflict in onslaught was less linear, retained a core CTF element.

hey - here's a silly question :

i know people are running a mutator that lets you use UT2k4 weapons in XMP, but is there one that allows you to use a UT2k4 character (stocked with all weapons at default (pickup) ammo)? e.g. ut2k4 character would have all of the default properties (jump height, dodge-jump, speed) of the main game.

i would sacrifice the great movement of the xmp classes for the incredible firepower of the 2k4 weapons (and my familiarity with them :)

if someone makes this mutator, i will build a server to run it...
