As we all know in U2 Harbinger was a useless piece of steel that existed only for huge scores and the fun you got from shooting it with consussion grenade. Its weaponry was pretty lame and easy avoidable. Rockets hit nowhere and nobody wanted to take the backseat.
Yesterday I got an idea of replacing the rocket bars with a set of mortars. The action could go like this. The guy in turret measures the distance between vehicle and target if he likes with a clearly visible laser pointer. And he could also just insert the angle/shooting distance to equipment if target isn´t visible or he trusts his own skills that much. And when shooting angle and direction are ok, the harby shoots rapidly about 10 mortars to the sky and after few seconds drop down screaming terribly bringing lots of death and destruction. Of course the cannons should have relatively long cooldown period of about 10-15 seconds so that mortar spamming wasn´t constant. The bombs could deal about half of juggernauts damage with a pretty large splash area.

The FMI would have to add speech bind: "Take cover!" when bombardment is on it´s way. Though suggested mortars are pretty lethal, that wouldn´t be imba coz A) you´ve time to retreat or get shelter B) harby would have to remain stationary when bombing.

hmmm. Whaddya think?

Not bad, but the harby would become almost useless at defending itself from attack. In its current state, it can still shoot things that come close by, and in u2xmp the backseat is kinda useful (note to FMI... make the fuzzy electric shots from the back stick to the ground and continue to do damage like in the original). It has potential, but we still need one of the other turrets.

cyb, thank you for your intellectual constructive criticism.
I was thinking of proper siege vehicle that currently doesn´t exist. Tank sucks in most conditions if it cannot shoot to the ground. eg. In Lowlands juggernaut is useless, but just imagine how cool it would be to rain some hell behind enemy base´s walls in that map.
IMO harby crew has never been able to defend itself with that crappy vehicle so it wouldn´t be a bad loss if it no couldn´t shoot directly. (except backseat turret which should actually do some harm to footies as well.)

Sorry to break it to yah Opt, but you're wasting your time with these threads
We need fresh thinking here. So the ideas he suggests may not be implemented directly, but a lot of them appear in some fashion either now or later.

Errr. Could you enlighten me for a bit and tell what this SPMA is? (Cryptic acronyms part III)

it's more or less the vehicle you 'invented' in your 1st post. just play ut2k4 onslaught a bit and you will find it.

Its in the UT2k4 Editors Choice Edition (ECE) Usually maps with the vehicle will have [ECE] in front of them. You should try ONS its a very good gametype.

Onslaught is just linear spam, and lacks pretty much any strategic element. The winning team is basically decided by the lowest n00b count. You essentially shoot at stuff and wait for some prick to run you down in a Manta.

XMP two possible win conditions and a lot of strategic play that helps make it happen. You don't just die and respawn, you don't just spam at the nearest strategic point. XMP was, is, and will continue to be far superior as a game to the cheap n00b-friendly imitation that is Onslaught. The fact that the FMI team spent as much time as they have porting it into 2k4 to ensure its longevity is a testament to that fact.

Not true at all.
ONS does take alot of team work, try playing on a ladder with some good teams and you will see how much it does take. Granted XMP does take alot as well but you are comparing 2 different game types that have different objectives. Just because you most likely suck at ONS does not make it is noob-friendly gametype. People like to have fun when they play a game and thats what ONS is or else everyone would play XMP.

Just because FMI ported it does not mean it will catch, look at the player counts now and most new people dont know about the bugs.

You will not bury ONS it is pretty well established. Why not instead of trying to crush it you try and convert ONS clans to play XMP.

onslaught is just plain silly for words and not worth our energy to start a flame war for.

xmp was and will ever be the king of strategic fps where you need to think once in a while instead of just spamming something.

i understand you're anger ravage but you must not give in to the dark side.

I dunno, I thought Q2-CTF was pretty taxing mentally. :p

I actually do miss those days, when everyone else was on dialup too, and I could just take people out all day with the railgun. THAT'S what the Gunner needs, a railgun! <slaps self>
