Bush and geography
Yes I had seen an TV-Interview where he mixed up slowakia and slovenia! At this time I thought that is not very astonishing for a american guy (btw I am a member of the national geographic society since 1980, so I do support their campaign for more geographical know how in the states and of cause outside!) But now I think it is not normal for a man who wants to be president of the USA....

Heaven forbid that I'd be prejudiced against Americans geography knowledge in general /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif , but I read someplace that a large part of US 6th graders thought that "Central America" was the same thing as Ohio...

a big part of the blame for Americas schools goes to people like Gore (liberals and democrats in general, plus strong teacher's unions who fight standardized testing because they don't want people to know how bad a job they're doing).
Because of them we have "Outcomes Based Education" which is not as interested in teaching facts as it is in preserving a child's "self esteem" by doing away with failing grades and never referring to a childs answer as "wrong" (so if little Johnny thinks 1+1=3, then for him it must be 3. we wouldn't want to crush his little spirit by telling him he's wrong) we also have a teacher in New York who was teaching his black students that ancient Egyptians could fly before evil white Europeans came along and killed all the flying Egyptians. Teaching them lies with the idea that it helps them feel good about their heritage!
