I know I've been driving you guys crazy with these card polls, but anyway I'd like to know what's your recommendation (BTW, my budget is currently ~211$, 950NIS):

Option 1: Sapphire ATI Radeon 9800SE (TV-out+DVI) with 128MB of DDR memory for ~204$ (914NIS)
Option 2: PowerColor ATI Radeon 9600PRO EZ (WTF?) (TV-out+DVI) with 256MB of DDR memory for ~209$ (941NIS)
Option 3: **This is the one that I'm almost sure I want, try to convince me otherwise.** Innovision GeForce FX 5700 (TV-out+DVI) with 256MB of DDR memory for 157$ (708NIS)
BTW, what does SE mean? Sucky Edition :D ?

Some stuff I want to say:
I really think I'll need 256MB, so tell me why I should get 128MB instead.
IMO the 9800SE is out of the question, simply because:
1. It's SE. That sucks.
2. It has 128MB of memory. That sucks even more.

Now, the real deal is between the 9600PRO and the 5700.
The 5700 costs WAY less, and if I search a 5700 that costs near the 210$ I'd find the exact same thing under ASUS or Gainward. Here, I'll give some more options:

Option 4: Palit GeForce FX 5700 (TV-out+DVI) with 256MB of DDR memory for 188$ (850NIS) Important note about this one: this is a (Dammit, I have no idea how to translate that into English... Well..) group-based purchase :D, and it closes today @ 23:30 GMT+02:00.

Option 5: Wait... No option here. I found an Albatron GFFX 5700U Ultra with 128MB of DDR-II with TV-out and DVI support for 233$ (1050NIS), but that totally exceeds my budget.

Budget detail:
My parents give me 600NIS (133$), I put 200NIS (44$) [That's all I got, I wasted loads of cash for a new hard drive (400NIS) and for 2x128MB of new RDRAM (750NIS) and the rest I had just got wasted by non-computer related random purchases], and my brother puts 150NIS (33$). But I can make him give me an extra 100NIS (enough to buy option 5) if you guys write down some really convincing sh**.

OMFG I just wrote an autobiography ;]

Currency details:
1$ = ~4.5nis... on May 27th, it's worth 4.57.

9600PRO, with a reg hack you can o/c to 9800 speeds i think
Can't I overclock with an external program?
Is the reg hack necessary? please tell me more about this. I also heard that there are hacked Catalyst drivers that work better. Does anyone know anything about this?

the hacked cat drivers are the same thing, just that you can get it as a reg key or whatever that you add to your registry.

it's basically a tool the guys at ATI use to set the clock speeds on the cards so they are happily stable.

nVIDIA has that too... But PowerStrip IMO is the best one out there for advanced features like FastWrites and Overclicking.

I'd hold off just a little bit. The radeon x800 is coming out very shortly. (In the UK at least,) it's not in stock yet over here, but the prices of these older cards should come down when they are widely available.

It costs a bunch.
The 6800 Ultra cost 3250 NIS, and was available only in 1 store in Israel.
The x800 isn't even sold here.
Dude, if the GF6800 Ultra costs 3250 NIS, the x800 will cost about 3600.

I'm not saying that the x800 will be affordable. What I'm saying is that prices are on their way down.

As the newer cards become mainstream over the next 2 months, the 9800 will go down to the current price bracket of the 9600.

You can get 9800PROs for around $200 if you know where to look. Try newegg.

Don't get the 9600 pro. It has a much lower memory bandwidth than the 9800, so it can't touch 9800 speeds with a forty foot pole.

From newegg:

SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON 9800 PRO Video Card, 128MB DDR, 256-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP -BULK $209.00 shipped.

Notice the 256-bit. This is memory bandwidth. The 9600s have 128-bit, which is why the 9600XT isn't much/any faster than the 9600PRO, which basically means overclocking the 9600pro does a whole lot of nothing.

Remember, I live in Israel, and I don't think that the 209$ is for Israel. Besides, There's gotta be tax, and all that cr**.

Whoa :)
Didn't see the slides... I saw German and ran away.
So I saw the slides and it seems that ATI have bad integrity. What I just saw justifies my opinion of buying the FX5700 even more.

check out the vga cards part III review on tomshardware.com

it has quite an indepth review on a number of cards...

$c8t@

ps if your money could stretch to it, id get a radeon 9600xt~ 215.709$ (ps i take it u mean us dollers ???)

pps not all ati 9600 cards can be "soft-modded" to 9800 XXX specs, mainly down to luck... if you want to squeeze a bit extra performance out id go for a better cooling system and as mentioned above use powerstrip, radclock etc to get higher core/memory speeds...

The 9800 Pro has 8 pixel pipelines, the 9600 Pro has only 4; clock speeds aside, this alone is a huge difference so there's no real way to get the 9600 Pro near the 9800 Pro in terms of performance.

Anyway, as much as I hate to say "wait" (since I know you don't want to hear that), it really probably is the best move right now. Let the new cards saturate the market a bit that way the prices of the 9800 Pros / 5900s will go down; those are the two cards you really should be looking at if you want to buy a new card but don't want to spend $400.
