I'm all outta' words to describe what I feel about my former most favourite IP. I mean the last three movies already killed the SW universe for me so I shouldn't care but then I get this mental image of george lucas raping things and now he's double teaming with a mickey mouse and a scittish looking JJ Abrams is already stewing the pot for a half finished nice idea(anyone seen the series finale of Fringe, remember lost? yeah : / ).

If you wonder what I'm on about(except cramming profanity into thread titles), rumor has it JJ Abrams is supposed to direct a new SW film.

Fringe ended better than anyone had ever hoped. People were expecting it to be a complete trainwreck. Instead the last season was basically turned into a cable channel show, without the typical "monster of the week" setup, but instead a long overarching plot. Mind you, there were gaping plot holes, that can really only be explained as "lol time travel dude", but still, it ended well.

It's just a movie. You really shouldn't care so much.
Star Wars is not "just a movie."

He may have made some entertaining films but he has only really ever made one original idea; "Cloverfield".

SW is not a universe to be intellectualised.... it's space opera. He can't be trusted to do an honest treatment without ripping someone off.

Nobody is going to produce a faithful rendition. The Star Wars I love was a product of a distinct time period and a hungry young director. 1977 is gone and it's not coming back. Judge the film on its own merit.

I agree, but his track record on previous films is kind of meh. I will still go see it, and I hope his ego isn't too big for him to realize what people are wanting and how it should be done.

It's difficult to convey to today's generation what an impact the original Star Wars movie had, not only to cinema but popular culture as well.
No amount of remake/rehash will re-capture the magnificence of that film - people literally went mental over it.
I still remember clearly watching the opening sequence of that star destroyer moving across the cinema screen as a teenager back in 76 and jaw-dropping doesn't even come close to describing that movie when it first came out.
Bash Lucas all you like for Phantom Menace onwards but Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi are monumental filming achievements, so he's OK in my book.
So, if Abrams wants to try his luck and make something as cool and powerful as that, then he's got his work cut out for him I'm afraid.

Obviously, I thought that Clone Wars CGI series was just about the worst pile of defunct, cliché ridden and incestuously creative garbage that I had ever seen puked out on TV for years and years in a row and now you're complaining?
