Before its released Id like to add that maybe for the first patch or bonus pack for the game, would FMI consider having official U2XMP clans do some beta testing? Epic failed to have as close of a real relationship with the true Unreal/UT1 community who brought the games to life for all those years before they developed 2k3/2k4. Instead they resorted to interacting with thier INA forum and the like. I know everyone is even, has equal say in a games progress or development, and I know any of us old players could have posted our input there but we were far outnumbered by the new community and thier ideas so the game didnt really turn out like everyone in the old community expected. Id like to see how a game or mod would be made if developers had some experienced input.

We already have representatives from four or five clans putting the beta through its paces. I personally wouldn't mind seeing more people involved but organizing this is a time consuming process, and I'm not sure how much time any of us have in between polishing the mod up and real life.

And your point is?

The entire paragraph that he just posted, is what his point was. Seriously, man..

There's a lot of animosity towards the beta testers, and some jealous frustrations about the fact that it's closed and certain people were picked over others. The fact remains that FMI picked their beta testers for reasons, and those reasons are their own and they could be as dumb as 'I threw a dart at the wall and it landed on X name' and that would be a sufficient answer to the masses because it's their mod.. it's their choice. I realize Destruction's post doesn't stem from the same roots as most of the 'opinions' on the testers have been coming from, but still. There are testers who don't play XMP or haven't in a long time. There are a lot of people who bring different perspectives, play syles, and gaming experience to the table. It's a good mix of players, and everyone is doing their part. What Destruction is talking about it isn't exactly beta testing, it's helping in the decision making process. Testers are finding bugs and holes.. not saying 'Well PERSONALLY I'd like to see this aspect about the game changed due to X reason. It would be better in MY eyes if it were changed. Thanks' No. They are making posts saying 'X location in Y map is bugged with a Z effect' or 'Weapon X has problems doing Y' etc etc etc. They are pounding out the bugs and imperfections and FMI is correcting them very swiftly, and doing a great job. Just because someone was picked to beta it and help find bugs does not mean their voice is of any higher priority to be heard, or of more importance than anyone elses who posts on these forums and is anticipating the game. I'm quite sure that FMI is listening to everything that is said, no matter how ludicrous it seems. Sure it might be dismissed about .02 seconds after they read it, but it's being read nonetheless.

I think all of the recent posts with FMI asking about certain aspects of the game that could be changed, and getting the entire communities opinions on them is a good sign that they are interested in what you (the community) thinks and they are trying to make it the best they possibly can for you. Finding bugs isn't making it attractive to the masses. Finding bugs is making it playable for the masses, whatever they happen to do with it.

representatives from 4 or 5
how many of those are 1 member from the clan
and everyone got pissed off becasue no one ever sees them play the beta anyway well thats what it seems (and the gloating doesn't help) but i agree with mantik we should let the testers do thier work, but a point here they are releasing a beta on the 10th for everyone else to find bugs and clean up issues so voice your oppinions then, The best way to test the game btw is to play it normally and not look for the bugs becasue usualy you will find bugs by accedent while playing, of course wandering off the beaten track on maps will help find the map bugs that arn't in the general area of play. so bear this in mind when playing.
this open beta is too get everyone else oppinion on the game afterall the voice of the masses is better then the voice of the few

Thank you for explaining the rest :D

Well IMO, the version coming out on 10th Dec is an open beta, so I guess before FMI even thinks about releasing a bonuspack they will work hard to make it a final release without any bugs and all desired maps, etc.

Further, I think that the bonuspacks will be handled like they were with U2:XMP. I mean, some guys just get together, gather some of their maps maybe some mutators, too and then they release a pack on their own. What people they'll use for their betatesting is up to them, not FMI.

BTW, AFAIK, they already have "real" Clan-players as beta-testers: Jackal, Xaero, Fleurie, they all are in XMP-Clans and therefore they have already considered it :D

Alpha, X_Clan, and DE arn't part of the Testing. We are the community servers at this point and have been for months now. This was really upsetting too me :( *was* doesn't matter anymore. I just hope an easy server migration will be possible.

FMI has said in the past they will support this game with patches as necessary and possibly new maps. Also, there is a CBP in the works for UTXMP...weather thats integrated into the "official releases" later is something I'm still working on. ;)

The CBP will have a public, open beta before its "official" release, so you all can have your input on the maps that are out there. :)

Yeah man, right on! They shoulda had people on the team who are well-known for finding all the lame h@x and bugs. I can't think of anyone atm, but you know what I mean.

Word. I'd hate to see Demilune go thru another 500 revisions before the actual bugs and exploits in the game engine are fixed. That's the whole thing with U2XMP... so much work on maps, little work on mutators to fix bugs/exploits, and of course -zero- work on a patch to the actual game engine after the 7710 patch, all thanks to Atari (but don't let that stop you from buying Atari games this Xmas).
