Extra maps for Unreal?

Maybe it's just me who doesn't get it or understand it, or haven't found it yet when using the search engine, but I've heard that you can download extra levels/maps for Unreal - eg. new scenes and music.

Is this true, and if so: how does it work? How can I install them and play them with my original Unreal cd installation?

Neffe :)

Thx for the links

The thing I just don't get is exactly where and how you get them, install them and play them - i mean the actual procedure. I guess I'm looking for a tutorial or something....

.umx files go into the Music folder.
.unr files go into the Maps folder.
.utx files go into the Texture folder.
.uax files go into the Sound folder.
.u and .int files go into the System folder.

To play new maps in Unreal 1: activate the console and write:
open Insertmapnamehere
Write the name of the unr. map file on Insertmapnamehere. (i.e. to open Harobed Village, write "open harobed").
Otherwise go to Botmatch, select CoopGame, and search for the new map and play it.

You can also go into the Unreal\Maps folder, and select open with Unreal. That's good if you have a piss poor memory like me, and can't remember the exact map names to enter. :)

Mostly something you would do in Unreal, since almost none of the U1 Map packs make use of special scripts.

Now that I think I'm done downloading all the extra maps, etc. for Unreal, here are some links and lists that might help everyone out. First, the obvious links earlier in this thread are good, but which maps to download? Well, there was an earlier thread in here that suggested maps by certain authors and stuff, so here you go:

The Fusion Pack as the only official Unreal bonus pack is a good start, but there are a lot more.

Hellscrag's map site I believe is all UT, but not completely sure. I also can't find Ebolt's site anywhere. I also can't find the CliffyB ownage for Unreal anymore for some odd reason. Anyone have the list of Unreal maps from this one?

VermoorD (put Unreal as the search at the top)
http://vermoord.beyondunreal.com/index.php

Wilhaven (search for some of these earlier maps at OldUnreal by name)
http://willhaven.planetunreal.gamespy.com/maps.htm

Faceless (search for some of these earlier maps at OldUnreal by name)
http://faceless.planetunreal.gamespy.com/maps.shtml

Plutonic
http://www.plutonicdesign.com/community.shtm#unreal

Akuma (get dmshatteredlight and DMUrbanArenaSE at OldUnreal)

You can also search MapRaider for their Unreal maps

The only thing I can find for Clawfist are these maps with strange names (get at OldUnreal):
DMANCadvance
DMCircloid
DMShumligg,
DMHolyfight
DMStation
DMEngine
DMMeenoclyps
DMReaperloonk
DMHellshrap
DMRoondaleek
DMRibbomaniac
DMReepadook
DMGrimborr
DMEightskoorj
DMFlakskoorj
DMHellabolish
DMMortec
DMHarboid
DMCoosark
DMLoodecia
DMHorbteep
DMCrabbash
DMSolseek
DMFreeksor
DMEvox
DMAggat
DMArklon
DMAncotta
DMSkoolap
DMShoogak
DMFeekasso
DMLoosak
Real_Keetor
DMMooterak
DKsheek
DMSkoorak
DMDrottbuk
DMTeetok
DMIrrok
DMAsmadena
DMDremlakk
DMQuotelis
DMFongy
DMVeltor
Real_Clop
DMRolus
DMAnka
DMColdrak
DMMeldrak

Oh, and something I just found is the 6 maps from the unofficial Epic Deathmatch Map Pack (Division) which includes the 3 OEM Demo maps and 3 GW Press Addon maps. Even though it's a .EXE file it only adds the 3 UNR files to Maps, 2 uninstall files to the root of Unreal, and a description file in Help and that's it.

That's all folks! I haven't tried most of these yet, so you're on your own!:)

EDIT: anyone know what DM-Retrospective is from the 227 patch I mean (I have that too as well).

Woah, so many thought out names :D I've played DMMeldrak, but not others.

And no, Retrospective isn't from the CD, it's from the patch 227, used as a tech demo for jump pads and emitters.

Ah, yeh, the patch, of course. I grabbed a few files when I installed to another subdir to see if the OpenGL file worked from the patch.:)

therer are emitters in U99?

It is Unreal and that is from 98 and not 99...wth is U99?

Besides he is talking about the unofficial 227 patch which adds these effects, but some unreal engine 1 games already had particle effects, such as wheel of time and that is from 99...

U1 has emitters, they arent generic but specific for features like sparks, smoke and so on, somewhat morphable. if you can mod their good jump out mod points.

There will also be something new from here also, just keep watch here.

...yes its still on, RTNP2U
