Epic games to end online services and turn off servers for Unreal And UT

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

Yeah I was gutted a bit when I saw the news.

I haven't played UT for a long time since the failed Alpha appeared and I get that Epic are making the $$$ with Fortnite. Lets hope TDM/CTF gameplay comes back one day!

Amen to all of the above but on the upside there was being there.

I played Doom but when Unreal came out we were handed a golden age of gaming with that franchise.

What pulled me away from UT3 back then was probably open world gaming. I got seriously into Elder Scrolls: Morrowind and for FPS it was Bioshock.

There's a ton of nostalgia though when I think of all the hours spent in DM, CTF and the rest.

I do wonder if Epic have something up their sleeves for the future. Seems weird to totally de-list the games......
Wishful thinking maybe (imagines Unreal single player with full RTX...)

Sadly I just won't hold my breath with Epic. They're definitely a bit sold out and they follow the money, not their loyal old fanbase.

It's incredible how Unreal and Quake are basically dead franchises after doing so well in the late-1990s/early-2000s. Class-based FPSes are so common now you would think there could be an opportunity for one of those arena-based FPSes could get traction. It doesn't seem that there are any out there right now that fill the void quite as well.
