heh, yeah, I read the whole trilogy in 6th grade. Scared the shit out of me. It was incredibly intense and I probably wasn't ready to read it. Killed that one kid at the boot camp showers, that was crazy

I believe they called them little doctors. First book was good, read most of the second one and thought it was a bit boring.

Ender's Game was one of my favorite books in high school! Though my all-time favorite is Asimov's Foundation trilogy. Now that was a trilogy!

Asimov

One of my fav authors, Isaac Asimov. In high-scool - my equivalent anyway, my fav book was Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. The teachers were "trying" to teach it in English Lit. Stress on the word "Trying" cause few understood it. Mind you, I was studying down in S'pore, lots of serious case Chinese Ed students in that class.

From Asimov, I liked the story collection Robot Dreams - especially the one about the computer the size of a city which was told to compute a solution to reverse enthropy. That one had a real killer ending.

Hey, how about listing our favourite Authors?
here's my list (that i can remember):
Isaac Asimov
C.S Lewis
JRR Tolkien
Frank Herbert
RA Salvator
Douglas Adams
David Eddings

I also liked those SAS stories but I cant find them anymore

Want books that will raise the hairs on your necks? Anything by John Saul. He's one creepy guy. Especially the Second Child. That book scared the mortal piss out of me, and no book has ever done that before.

Now what's the question

Yeah, John Saul. I read one of his books a long while back, he is one creepy fella. I prefer E. Allan Poe, Lovecraft and gee, i cant remember their names no more. I gotta go back to s'pore and find me a good library. I havent sat down to read a good book in a long while.

and Galaddin? a strike teams a bit much, you need a hobbit.

Anybody else? The topic question is your favourite authors.

Lovecraft, Lovecraft, Lovecraft. One of the best horror authors of all time. Now if only they made a movie/game that actually lived up to the quality of his books.

I really dont read that many books actually. I really liked 1984 and Animal Farm by George Orwell. I read the hobbit, but lord of the rings bored me, so i didnt even finish the first book.

Christopher Webb

Overtly Serious Chappy.
William Gibson; Neuromancer was fantastic, the others just didn't have the same 'touch'

JRR Tolkien. I saw the trailer the other day. I CAN'T WAIT TILL AFTER ****EN' CHRISTMAS 2001+!!!! CAUSE I LIVE IN AUSTRALIA AND WE GET OUR FILMS LATE GODDAMN IT. AND IT STILL AIN'T COMMIN' OUT FOR ANOTHER BLOODY YEAR AND A HALF!!!!

Ahem.

David Eddings became too formulaic.

I personally wanted to teleport myself to 1984 with alot of cruise missles, an AT-4 or few, and an FN-P90, and trash the damn Ministry of Love.

Ender's game was good

I know what you mean Webb, I really enjoyed imagining a Tomohawk slamming into the ministry 'o' luv (it sounds really dirty when you put it that way).

of course, then it would turn into me going in that big central-pyramid (the inner-party's building) Matrix-style shooting up some thought-police (and this was before I saw the matrix).

BTW, anyone here read "Tomorrow when the War Began" by John Marsden.

darn it

but it looks like i'm missing out on a lot of good books. yo Galaddin, where do you go to get some good reading around here?

So far, our National Library stinks and then some. I do most of my reading by plonking down in a book store. And mind you our Malaysian bookstores arent very plonk friendly. No seats, cushions or snack bars like them huge affairs in the US.
