The minimal framerate for human brain to construct a continuous movement vision is around 16~20. But the human vision sense does have the capability of distinguishing different framerate up to 60 or more.

I think his point is that they see more potential in waiting for UW, which will have a more advanced build of Unreal than U2 will be using.

This DOES seem like a complaint thread...

Practically everyone has a 1+ghz box. I have a 400 mhz g3 iMac DV SE with 256 MB RAM, and a 15'' monitor. But I can still compete with people more than twice my amount in RAM, Mhz, monitor size etc.

And I run at 800x600 low everything and get no more than 14 fps (10 on avg 5 in firefights). Sure, I will complain alot, but that suffering pays off in LAN places when my reflexes are 10x faster than others because I am used to acting ahead of time on this box.

Although I do agree that INF could run a LITTLE faster on old boxes, I can't force them to screw the game for lower end users like myself. They key lies in optimization. Strike Force runs incredibly well on my machine, and I easily keep 30 fps. And in UT I keep a constant 30.

Anyone know how hard assaulting can be when you play a slide show? HARD :D

Also, forget all about Unreal 2. Forget about it. Not gonna happen. I'm not saying anything else, but if you're looking to Unreal 2 then you'd best just focus attentions elsewhere. It's not even being made by Epic, for jebus' sake.

The content is not being made by epic, true.

BUT THE FUGGING TECHNOLOGY IS, AND SO ARE THE TOOLS.

Its a logical step forward, and will run INF like a crackfiend for anyone with a GeForce or better.

Know why? Cause that iteration of the Unreal engine uses hardware transform and lighting, leaving the CPU to do things like Physics, etc...

Sounds like a match made in heaven to me. People who don't have a TnL card spend fifty bucks on a GeForce 2mx and get a smmooove running INF with that build.

I t hink you guys are forgetting the *other* possible graphics card available at this time: The Radeon.

The D3D engine of UT is not bad, it's just that Nvidia based cards don't support Pallatized Textures while rendering in D3D (that's why the OpenGL renderers are available). The Radeon and the Voodoo's on the other hand *do* support this texture format in all API's, whereas Nvidia only supports it in OpenGL.

Here's the thing though, on AnandTech, SharkyExtreme, TomsHardware, etc, Nvidia based graphics cards ALWAYS score better on the UT benchmarks, which is something I've never understood. Except for a Geforce3, I haven't come across any Nvidia based card that could run UT as smoothly as a Voodoo5 or a Radeon.

I myself have a Radeon SE and INF runs amazing. I play at 1600x1200 and still get 35-55fps smoothly. I think I'm more dependant on my 1.2ghz processor actually. It only slows down when I'm looking at the entire map after I've died. =P

woooot buy a voodoo and kiss your problems goodbye!

ohh at least your gforce can handle the forums, even if INF wears out your card its still worth something i guess.

Palettized textures are a thing of the past. I support nVidia's choice to leave them behind. The reason that nVidia cards typical score better is almost entirely due to the more mature drivers.

It wouild be easy to port INF from UT to U2, even if the team doesn't, one of us that knows code could. [we would ask of course]

I'm of the mind that they can get quite a lot done by sticking with this engine. They could probably have quite the polished game before migrating to UW. At least then we wouldn't have to survive three engine jumps (U->UT->U2->UW). Those open environments do look tempting though. But I'm patient.
