Thanks guys. I'm really liking Decapitated - never heard them before. What happened to their drummer is terrible though. For one his age, he was pretty damn good.
Excellent suggestions, Black_Seeds. I hadn't heard of them except for Arch Enemy and Soilwork.
I know they're not exactly Death/Black Metal, but what do you guys think of Blotted Science? http://www.myspace.com/blottedscience Their music's pretty technical and heavy so figured it was somewhat relevant.

My all time fav of course would be the good ole classic, Napalm Death.

Defication is another good one. Its Mick Harris (If I remember right thats his name, the original drummer for Napalm) and one of the guitarist for Napalm (dont remember his name)Yeah Im a Napalm Death fan

Godflesh (altho not death metal, more industrial) is another great band

Were it not for the fact that HCS was already included in my listening to pretty much everything Garm related, I would thank you immensely... I leave the link in there so other people can thank you though.

I've mostly been listening heavily to tech-metal/math-metal/metalcore stuff lately. Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza gets points just for the fact that they actually named their second album Danza II: The Electric Boogaloo. That and the mathematical nature of their riffwork is pretty much retarded. In the good way. Like, kid-standing-over-his-bike-in-the-middle-of-the-street-in-a-puddle-of-drool-with-a-helmet-covered-in-Chiquita-banana-stickers retarded.

I'm listening to Nevermore's album This Godless Endeavor at the moment. The vocals of this band have always annoyed me but if you can ignore that there's some nice metal tewnz. It'd be better if the singer was replaced or just shut up. D:

Been listening to Threat Signal's Under Reprisal recently too. Got a thrashy feel to it but is definitely melodic in its own right. Their song "Counterbalance" is a good example of that; the melodic part and the lead stuff over it is great, IMO. I almost always prefer clean vocals over that gruff half scream, half yell thing, but for some reason it doesn't bother me with this band as much as it has with others in the past.

I'm going to put other people suggestions here with links for those too lazy to look:
-Dark Tranquillity Myspace a band I can't believe I forgot to mention, I'm huge on the "Character" album, I'd also recommend "Haven".
-Amon Amarth Myspace This band pretty much embodies all of the characteristics that are "metal". I recommend the "With Oden on Our Side" and "Versus the World" albums
-At The Gates Myspace One of the pioneering melodic death bands. Personally prefer the "Slaughter of the Soul" album, but others will probably like some of their earlier stuff more.
-Edge of Sanity Myspace Not a band I've actually heard of before... but from what I've just heard off the myspace, it's pretty good stuff.

Now some moar...
-Carcass Myspace In 1994 Carcass released Heartwork, arguably making it the first melodic death album evar. (don't hold me to that, but that's the way I recall it). If you're after their melodic death stuff, you'll want to dig into their last 2 albums, although preferably Heartwork.
-Amorphis Myspace This band will probably appeal to fans of Opeth, in my opinion they're fairly similar musically (perhaps with more Celtic influence melodically) but with shorter songs. I've only heard the "Eclipse" album, so I can't comment on their other stuff, but I strongly recommend it.

Ii can start a discussion how wintersun, kalmah and cob arent melo death but do we want that?

Hmm I dunno . I'd be kinda interested in hearing your reasoning where Kalmah isn't a melo death group?

Edge of sanity albeit quite melodic is more progressive swedish death metal.

Carcass best work is Necroticism-Descanting the Insalubrious imho.

Amorphis started as a fairly brutal swedish styled death metal. Then went on to become progressive doomdeath. Then became progressive metal which they still are.

I saw them live about 3 weeks ago.
That along with Suffocation is one of the best shows I ever saw. Seriously intense mosh pit. If they come near you, definitely go and see them.

Seen 'em on their first two tours, and I dunno... just doesn't do it for me as much anymore. I need to get out to a concert soon, it's been too long. My last show I was at, I was in an opening band for Finntroll, so that's amusing enough I guess.

Meshugga's new album got leaked... best one yet, they keep pushing stuff further and further. This one has bit more of a heavy/dirty sound (a bit more like chaos sphere as far as distortion and effects)

Ok so after listening to the album several times Ive come to the conclusion that every track is awesome but one track is just nuts (#3 if I got the order correct) much faster pace than the rest of the album. Just be careful you may start to drool and bleed from your eyes.

Yeah, I never got into Meshuggah either, only for a very short while.

I quite like the Chaosphere CD, it's the only material of theirs I've heard.

I'm anticipating the next Kalmah release mostly, I'm pretty sure that's planned for this year.

I'm looking forward to the new Summoning. They just started to work on it, so it'll take time but I'm still glad a new album is in the works.
