Hello All...I have a little problem, but not a big deal unless I have to deal with a camper in a dark corner ;). In game graphics are very dark and unable to see well. Brightness settings are up all the way. Have doubled checked INI to verify settings and all is good at

[WinDrv.WindowsClient]
..
Brightness=1.000000

[XDrv.XClient]
..
Brightness=1.000000

Not completely sure this is the correct location in the INI, but have adjusted these settings with-in the INI with no visual results. This is a clean install and this happens all the time when I re-install the game. Now I'm just tired of having to strain my eyes to see my foes. Any suggestions are appreciated.

NOTE: This issue is with UT99 only. I have no problems with any other games such as Doom3, FarCry and other new game releases.

Turn up your gamma levels (F11)

If you're using the OpenGL then it's no surprise - check out the UT archives in the forums somewhere for gfx darkness.

Thanks for the replies fellas...

Well I was using Direct3D support, but have decided with Open GL now and made some adjustments with the ATI settings and also I upgraded the GL drivers after the fact and all seems to be working fine. In fact it was to bright lol and I had to slide her down a bit. I'll remember this when I reinstall the darn game again.

open gl?! i used that form of rendering back in the 3dfx days you did not say what kind of card you are using now.the first thing i would do is update all your drivers video card/and the game itself[latest patch is ver 451 i think] if you are using an old monitor that could be a cause to.

I'm using the ATI Radeon 9600xt 128mb with current drivers. The patch 4.51 is basically administration server end which covers forced admin log-in issues, text line and IRC chat client and a couple of other issues. It's also a third party patch which I do not use unless absolutely necessary. This issue (I was Having) pertains to Unreal Tournament GOFY release ONLY and no other game in my collection, like Doom3 or HL2 as an example. O by the way I use 3d support with this vid card with any other game I play, with no issues with graphics. The openGL rendering has allowed me the option to eliminate the problem I was having with UT99. I have attempted to adjust the settings with the card, but does not make any changes to UT, but oddly enough the changes effect everything else. It's a trip to say the lease.

i have a similar problem to the guy at the start

basically my ATI graphics card sets up the brightnesss etc for my desktop - i fiddled with this and it is ok now !!

but when i open lots of my games it seems to revert to a different setting. i dunno how to change the opengl brightness and gamma settings !!! i may jus be stupid but i have lokked everywhere.

i can change the D3D setting but this doesn;t help the Opengl problem !!!

so if sum1 can explain it to me in really simple terms i would be grateful
