Sufjan Stevens - The Age of Adz

On his latest Album Stevens has ditched the folk sound for a more experimental approach without sacrificing his dreamy-sound. Good album, nice main track.

Wow, there truly is no accounting for taste given some of the comments I've been reading about songs from this album.

Personally, I love this album. It's just so full of anger and disgust. If you ever have a bad relationship this is the album you play when you want to vent about it.

I think some of the hate comes, that this really isn't 'Death Metal'. It's not Nu-Metal or hardcore. It's something between all of that and a mix of other stuff. I put it more along the lines of a NOLA mix/variant.

From a few of the reviews I've read so far, almost all the people who have been ripping on this seem to be fanbois. I swear you can hear the hairspray dripping from their ears as it's locked their thoughts in a rigid hate of anything that doesn't sound like they want it to. (The one at the Encylopedia Metallum is a perfect example of this.)

I make no bones, if I don't like something I say so. And I'm just a likely as anyone else to call bull**** (*cough* Metallica *cough*) when a bands output just goes to ****. But on the other hand, I'm also willing to listen to more than just a single genre or sound, and I realize that many bands simply *are* going to change their sounds over time. So long as the music stays good, I'm fine with that.

I think the following song pretty much says everything I could say about this topic. (Just give the track a bit to actually kick in...there some silence/low track stuff at the start.)

For reference here's a track from the first & previous Massacre full release.

It's some good technical death metal. (To a T!) So to an extent I can understand the shock going from that to Promise. But I still think Promise is a good album on it's own merits. Reminds me somewhat of Type O Negatives "Unsuccessfully Coping With The Natural Beauty Of Infidelity" from the 'Slow, Deep and Hard' album.

Wow! A new Master album. Still have their debut on cassette somewhere. Last album I bought from them was 2002's 'Let's Start a War'. (Great album)

And because it's the Truth! Dio - "Metal Will Never Die"

? I can't say that this year has been bad for metal at all. Everywhere I turn it seems like either someone has put out something new or I'm finding another great track/band/album that I would otherwise miss.

For example: :)

i ment all the deaths. Peter Steele and Dio are just the tip of the iceberg of those who died this year.

True, a rather large number of metal icons passed away this year. So from that perspective this year did suck a bit for metal.
