Dutch Death/doom rules pretty hard.

Doom/Death itself is a great genre, it doesn't need to be Dutch. Like PB&Chocolate it's just two great tastes that go great together!

Here's one of those great albums/bands (Doom/Death) that didn't last long, but came from the US.

This came from the "Among Majestic Ruin" album, the first among Morgion's three before they broke up. It leans heavier towards the Doom side in pacing overall but it's the most 'Deathy' of the three.

After the third album they broke up and several of the members went on to the band "Keen of the Crow" which was much in the vein of Morgion's first album with a bit more of a Death influence. Sadly this band broke up again after one full album.

in flames hasnt been okay since what clayman?

Dismember - [Indecent And Obscene #06] Reborn In Blasphemy

now this is proper swedish metal

Catching up a bit here, I've never been an In Flames fan, so the last thing I heard from them came from 'The Jester Race' I think. So I gave the new album a listen and, oh yeah that's pretty bad. You can hear the various influences, but overall it sounds like metal core or nu metal. And not that good at that. (Each element might be pretty good on it's own, but put together it's just bad.)

On top of everything I swear it sounds over processed or something as well. A bit of 'loudness war' and possibly some post processing? I'm not a sound tech, but I swear I've heard this sort of effect before.

I'm a big proponent of the idea that a certain amount of 'imperfections' actually makes a recording actually *better* than it would be otherwise. Think of it as the 'uncanny valley' for sound if everything is 'too perfect'.

Anyway, here's what's currently on my playlist - Immortal "Battles in the North".

I just have an issue with overly fake sounding stuff. Unless its industrial/intentional/whatever. Drum machines can get quite grating as well.

Airut - [Marrasmaa] Marrasmaa
I have a lot of good memories associated with airut. Playing the FDF mod for OFP, being 14-16 year old etc.
