Controlling The Bots In UT

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

OK, I have been playing UT for well over a year now and I still do not know how to make the bots do what you want them to do (CTF). Duh! Anyways, if this is possible, how do you do it? When playing single player, I notice sometimes the whole opposing team goes out to get the flag, but my team just hangs around and follows me all over the damn place and have no mind of their own! If this is a possibility, someone please clue me in! Thanks!

OK providing you havent remapped the key press V ingame to bring up voice menu...

This allows you to select taunts, give orders to teammates i.e. "Somebody get our flag back" and also order the bots (under ORDERS section)...u can tell em to Defend, Attack, Freelance or back you up...and u can give these orders to each bot individually or all at once.

Hope that helps :)

Also if you go into the "Speech Bindings" section of the Preferences you can assign specific orders to keys... just an alternative to using the menu. You can still use the menu to send commands while the game is paused... but online it can take to long to navigate sometimes.

Yeah, like JEM said, you have to use speech binding, else you'll die just trying to navigate the menus. Some useful (bot-controlling) speech binds that I use:

1. Cover me
2. Take their flag
3. Defend the base
4. Engage according to operational parameters - to reset your last command.

Hope this helps.

One thing to remember....

especially on custom maps. The designer has to put in the bot pathing. If the map designer does a poor job, the bots will run into things, and sorta just act like dorks. I've seen on some maps, when you tell the bots to defend, they will go to a sniper room, and just sit there. They wont snipe.

Die? No way......

If you're playing a Single Player match against the bots there's an easy way to issue commands via the menu and take as much time as you want without getting killed or missing any of the action. Just pause the game! You can still hit V and bring up the menu and any commands you select will be issued as soon as you unpause the game. I do it all the time.

i u press V(oicemenu) in game while looking @ a player, u get an option "order this bot" so can order individual bots/players easylier... has anyone found a keybind to this option? fex x=hold this possition. if u hold down Y(with the bind) u activate the "order this bot" function and orders the spesific bot/player to hold this possition by pressing x ..would be nice me thinks:)

Thanks all for your replies. Works like a charm. I know what you mean when you need to use speech binding. I kept getting killed trying to press V and navigate the menu. Thanks again!
