Inspired by a report that the population of the UK, currently 60,000,000, will have risen to 150,000,000 by 2040 if the rate of increase stays at present levels. Which it will, because we're stupid.

Terraform antarctica and the sahara, as the world warms up, more arable land may become available. Mass producing synthetic foods, and genetically enhance crops to give more produce. Population will then begin to decrease as people who complain about genetically enhanced crops saying "It's against nature duuuude!!!" will refuse to eat anything and die out.

Or

Nuclear war detroys most/all life so population isn't a problem.

Or

We could all wear condoms...

I say we have to make each country produce the food they consume. If you can't sustain your population then you starve.

Also American fundamentalist groups going to Uganda and promoting hate need to be stopped at all costs...

"In March, American anti-gay activists traveled to Uganda for a conference that pledged to “wipe out” homosexuality."

We need the GLBTs they slow population growth. Hell half of them adopt, which is even better!

Condom sex is the worse thing you can imagine in that area. That's pretty much just to say that argument itself is wrong, and because people screw around without them is raising population status - ever heard of birth control?

You probably never had sex without it to feel the difference.

In a stream of stars
Iirc scientists have found planets, but they're very close to smaller stars (brown dwarfs? Or worse: white dwarfs and neutron stars.) Most of those planets are the size of jupiter iirc. (someone correct me if I'm making a mistake). Sometimes there are two-three planet (like masses?) orbiting small stars and the farthest one orbits at a distance as mercury does to our yellow sun.
Finding earth like planets is going to be one hell of a dilly challenge.
Hey, it's a big galaxy.

Sometimes I fear we are truly living on an unique planet. When you think about all the good fortune it was given (protected by our giant neighbour jupiter f.e.), the perfect distance to a perfect star, the right amount of mass, water, atmosphere...etc.
Earth must be unique? Though, I really hope sooner than later we'll discover replicaes (if possible) of our magnificent world. But there are those terrible distances...
Bah, I'll never find out. At the end of this century, how much progress will man have made in this regard. It's somewhat frustrating, but that's just the way things are. We're not build to last.

Heck, mars wouldn't even be a suitable living ground. For now, perhaps.
The planet is too small anyway. And ice cold. And the poisonous atmosphere. Hmmm, we're stuck on our beautiful blue planet for now.

The resources that the earth provides can go a lot long than anyone things. We simply haven't had the need to develop that kind of efficiency yet. Fears of overpopulation is nothing more than the same baseless fear mongering that has gone on for decades. When overpopulation really becomes an issue then we will be more than capable of meeting that challenge head on. Until then you'll have to excuse my apathy.

Which other planets?
Well obviously it's not really possible to travel far enough to find suitable planets, but it should be. Humans have been here for thousands of years they should of been working on space travel as soon as possible, it should be top priority not much else matters now everything's basically done on earth, it won't get any better it will just get worse. Humans should have spread of into other planets it would be cool. They're so slow. Money and stupid stuff shouldn't be an issue.
I deffinitly think there is other planets like Earth.

This is why they are developing viruses and a vaccine infrastructure so that they can release a very dangerous form of a virus and then declare state of global emergency and enforce mandatory vaccinations while also forming camps.

Little will everyone know the vaccines will carry insanely high doses of squalene and polysorbate 80, which effectively infertilizes 90% of the people that were administered the vaccine. But the other 10% has a risk of having a baby with birth defects, so this would cause a baby making industry, people have to get artificially inseminated and take pharmaceuticals in order to have a baby. And no this isn't covered by insurance, duh. But most idealist and eugenic driven people are not really trustworthy.

This is so the poor people stop having babies. No money? Less than 5,000$ in the bank? Then no baby. They also can unofficially monopolize the industry and everyone that wants to get artificially inseminated will risk being a genetic experiment as the scientist will start using genetic modifying technology to make sure there "aren't any defects", but in reality they are playing around with the DNA, to make the babies less fertile so that they can continue making people pay for having babies, and also they can put whatever genetic strengths or weaknesses they desire into the next generation, the incentive being their own power, and a more esthetically pleasing society.

Another thing the first rounds of vaccine will most likely not be tested by a third party that isn't in the circle, so they will make high priority vaccinations for those at most risk 0-24 years of age, and pregnant women. So they can be assured the next generation will be "fixed". But to be honest most people probably wont care, because they are all idiots that think having sex is more important than caring for their progeny and instilling good values.

The only reason I'm against this is I think most people that conspire and in the private circle of power are generally douchebags, same thing with scientists. Majority of the successful are all full of themselves and do everything they do for sustenance, very close-minded and don't know anything about altruism or spirituality, that is the reason why I decided to change career paths.

Bit like in serenity, you mean?

Maybe our planet line-up is also something out of the ordinary? Maybe most solar systems do have planets very close to their star.

Our bodies are probably too weak for long space travel. Orbiting earth is one thing, but actually going out there in the vast darkness...
Heck, maybe far future generations of men will be able to download their mind into robotic clones, and so protect themselves from the hostile environments of space.
Bleh, dreaming again.

I really hope that in my lifetime the first people will set foot on mars. But I'd be really surprised. Though, it's the year 2009 and who knows how many more advances we'll make. Sudden realisations, breakthroughs etc. Isn't it theorised to be a 18 month trip to our small neighbor? That's a long time.

Money is a real problem. Hell, I also hope that we'll be able to return to the moon by 2020, but I doubt it.

Fears of overpopulation is nothing more than the same baseless fear mongering that has gone on for decades. When overpopulation really becomes an issue then we will be more than capable of meeting that challenge head on. Until then you'll have to excuse my apathy.

We are overpopulated based on the current system. If we had a 100% efficient system to distribute food/water and other vital resources, we would have a generous surplus of food and resources even if everyone in the world gets an equal amount. The sad thing is that our system is very unoptimized and very inefficient. (Also, wouldn't this seem like "spreading the wealth"? ;))

And yes, we can survive well right now, but the problem is that it is unsustainable. Generally, we can live like kings right now, but our children and descendants will suffer the consequences. I fear that my generation will be the last generation that can live properly in this current system. Our children will have to foot the bill.

The main problem here is that people do not see a problem until it hits them square in the face. We will constantly be looking for a cure for an ailment, before they even consider what the causes of the problem were. Sometimes, the causes are easily preventable. The frog and boiling water analogy that Al Gore had in the Inconvenient Truth is a great example of this.

As far as terraforming other planets, that is the most unfeasible idea of them all. Hell, we can't even get back to walking on the moon easily and quickly.

All in all, saying that we haven't had the need to develop the need for more efficiency now is ridiculous. You say that when overpopulation becomes a problem (which it is a problem now, in the present), we will be more than able to combat the issue. I believe that we will not be able to do it, but we have, by experience, survived before against near impossible odds. But do we really have to suffer in the future, instead of not having the problem in the first place?

Yeah, we don't have a population issue yet...

You probably never had sex without it to feel the difference.

I have, and you need to find yourself a tighter girl/better condoms if it's such a problem to you. Or don't get boozed up before sex, doesn't help either.

If I have to make the choice between having sex without a condom or actually having any form of earth as we know it left in 80 years, I'll gladly get myself some rubbers.

(Also, wouldn't this seem like "spreading the wealth"? ;))

That, sir, is SOCIALIST!

Birth control drugs cost way to much money to implement properly in poor countries. Birth control drugs are also tailored to their user and that again would raise the costs and make the implementation near impossible. People can't afford to see Doctors for things that make them sick let alone getting their birth control dosage balanced.
