Thanks Cliffy and Good luck at new venture. I doubt Epic will get back to Unreal any time soon just because of Cliffy's departure. From Tim Sweeney and Mark Rein interviews it looked like Epic just don't have resources to invest into the franchise. Their hands are pretty much full with other projects. UT3 was a flop and they can't afford another financial blow.

A new hope for pc gaming

This fool quits the studio? it's a good thing!
I remember he repeated "there was no future for the pc platform" "pc sucks" "I'll never code for pc anymore" during unreal tournament 3's marketing, even Mark Rein treat him as a fool.
You're really strange: it has never stopped belittle pc players but he is your idol.
Now the studio is no more deconcentrated, he will be able to release a game fully adapted to pc.

...standing behind you...
CliffyB, thanks for all the great support and games. You'll be missed in this community. Hope your future endeavors are blessed.

To those who may not know, CliffyB, Tim Sweeney, and the old Epic group were instrumental in successful beginnings of this site. When we worked on PlanetUnreal, they provided our team with the upmost support and always...always gave us the time for interviews, news, and more. When QAPete decided to create this site, Epic owned the domain name and both Tim and CliffyB freely gave it to this team.

Their generousity and support continued as they invited our reviewers and content providers to several release events and vouched for our professionalism to their partners to receive and review their games. I remember they invited me to the release party for Unreal Championship and flew me first class. We were a small site that should never had a great impact in the global gaming media outlet, but because of their support, US and European magazines looked to our site for the latest news. Those were the golden days of BeyondUnreal and it existed because of QAPete's vision, the site's team, and more importantly CliffyB and Tim's exceptional support.

Lastly, when I was deployed to the middle east, CliffyB sent my unit every Unreal game for the major platforms, and swag. He didn't want me to publish this act. Regardless of his personal tastes or entertainment inspired characteristics, he is a true gentleman and loved the fans. It is unfortunate that many fans will not know the true character of CliffyB, but those who met him know and respect him.

Says it all really. When Epic was primarily a PC developer they were able to create and foster the communities that made the games great. I rarely find that to be the case with any game or company. I understand his departure as life is short and a development grind is rough. Before you know it, the years have really gone by.
Not to mention contracts that make you feel trapped instead of empowered.
I feel like his sense of humor and vision made UT the great game that it was.

I will be following him closely in regards to wherever he ends up. I doubt that his long stint at epic games will be the main highlight of his life. He will do so much more because he is one of those rare individuals that is truly well rounded and excels socially.

Im not sure if I should be thanking him for quite the ride or feel resentment as the Unreal Tournament series took a good chunk out of my young adult years. haha.

On the other hand, the series dragged me in and helped me through the hellhole that I lived in growing up. Im too tired to find the right terminology for it. UT was a scene that I could escape into and relate to. The community support was awesome. I have yet to meet a company that can rival their UT golden age.

I feel like Ill regret this post in the morning...lol. Just my thoughts on it all. Wish him the best.
