Is it possible to get 32-bit color from voodoo3 3000 agp. I have pent III 500 mhz and 128 megs of ram. When I go to UT preferences I just cant set it to 32-bit color. (I am able to set it to 32 bit color as long as the UT screen is not maximized) So is there a way to do it when I have UT maximized?...Thanx....

Sorry, 32bit color isn't possible with the V3. They are said to be 16bit color cards but findings show them to be 24bit. Wait til the new voodoo's they'll blow everything out of the water!

22 bit is 3dfx's poor attempt at bastardizing 16 bit to try to get better color.

I bought a voodoo 3000 about 7 months ago, and after looking at my friends roomates tnt2, i've never regreted it. I knew it didn't have 32 bit color when I bought it, but from what I've heard and seen no one plays with 32 bit color anyway. It slows things down! Also I wanted the glide capability for UT. Just try UT in D3d and you'll know what I'm talking about. The voodoo 3's were never meant to be top of the line. They were supposed to be a high performance graphics card at a great price. The extra 85 dollars for the tnt2, or the extra 150 for the geforce just simply isn't worth it.

100 bucks for a voodoo 3000 just can't be beat.

Guy, you're sorely mistaken. Most of the world (except 3dfx fans and super hardcore gamers who absolutely MUST have over 100 fps in everything they do) run 32 bit color these days. 16-32bit makes a HUGE image difference. Image is just as important as FPS. If it wasn't, q3 would still be on the same old q2 engine.
Oh, and when the v3 was released, it was supposed to be a super high end card. It didn't turn out that anyone agreed, so it's job description changed.

All that i know is that tnt2 card runs UT slllooowww on 32 bit color d3d. (It was awesome in quake3, But who cares?)
It was almost unplayable.

When he turned it down to 16 bit it played much better, and was very smooth. But he could have gotten the same performance, and saved 80 bucks with a voodoo 3000.

The specs on that machine were
athlon 550
13gig 7200 rpm drive
128 meg of ram
sb awe 64 gold
creative utral tnt2 blaster

it actually ran slower than my friends

k6-3 450 voodoo 3000 128 meg machine!!!

For running UT there is simply nothing better than a voodoo. Especially when you count cost.

I guess I'll have to look at other games besides UT to judge the tnt2. I'm glad I got my voodoo though, because I knew I was going to be playing alot of unreal/UT.

Chryst, sorry man, I don't agree.

I'm very anal about my display and quality of the graphics.. but the SERIOUS performance hit (1/2 the framerate) just get to 32bit color is not worth it.

I had a TNT2 for a while - and tried 32bit vs 16bit in NFS:High Stakes... and was definitely not impressed.

Again, it's the price for performance. The V3 performs faster at a cheaper price than the TNT2's do (and faster than GeForce in UT).

Sorry but what i`m about to say may affect some of you so plz don`t take this personaly.

V4 and V5 will be the fastess cards out there but still, they`ll be behind Nvidia... AGAIN.

Why you ask, because the NVIDIA chips will support T&L wich is Textures and Lighting and will be more capable of giving a game the best graphics, best speed, and the most detailed levels and also let`s not forget the "A.I."

I`m soory for 3dfx but 800$ for a 3d card is way to excessive.

PS. I don`t believe it but i`m going to go with NVIDIA. I`ll miss that 3dfx miniGL.......

Well Rage, it's only $800 if you decide to get the premier 3dfx card when it ships, but I seriously doubt many of UT players will be willing to spend that much cash on something like that. I was thinking more V5 5000 speed ya know? No way would I drop cash for the V5 6000..plbbfft
