briefing for the newbies

ok i noticed that some of the veterans like to bash the newbies.. also me .. so i thought of warning all newbies.. here's a checklist:
1. read the roadmap before entering the forum!
2. don't say a suggestion which ends ..like in cs! [this is the worst thing you can do ]
3. don't make weapon suggestions
4. related to 2. .. don't come to the forum and post things like mod x rulz!
5. be nice and friendly [in the forum- not in the game ;-) ]

6. (related to 5) Don't respond negatively toward the bashing, and don't take it personally. Instead, think of it as a test to check your character, and maturity level.

7. Never use the phrase 'you're ripping', or other phrases expressing similar thoughts.

8. Listen to Mr. T, because he's a nice guy, and is just trying to help.

The US switched from the Colt 1911 to the M9 because they had to- all the Nato countries now use 9mm and 5.56x45mm ammo, they are trying to make it so that resupply shipments of ammo from any Nato country can aid any Nato troops.

Yeah, exactly..
As if the US gave a shit about NATO ammo!
They wanted the .308 round, they got it; what happened few years later: they switched to the .223 and the whole NATO was pissed off.
They could have sticked to the 1911, but they didn't for other reasons.
First the 1911 is too old -> means not that it is bad ore useless or anything; it still is one of the best weapon designs ever made.
It lacks security; find out about the M9, and you'll see that creep has that many security systems that only a complete idiot could cause an AD.
The M9 has higher capacity and the 9x19 is more likely to penetrate kevlar than the .45, though it has not the .45s stopping power.
If you want to compare them, it's like compareing a M14 to the M16A2 or even the M4. The M14 was, is and will be an excellent weapon, but still the US uses the M16 now, because it has some important advantages.

Ill add something here:

Read at least the full page of threads before posting. How many post have I seen about Akimbo, throwing knives, WWII weaps, etc etc that are answere easily in the list of threads.

The other, larger issue, is that you have to have a leg to stand on. If youre going to suggest a weapon/item you have to be able to advocate for the fact that it should be in the game. Minuguns, flamethrowers, throwing knives have all generally trounced because they dont fit with the mod theme and are defunct or are unrealistic. Next be prepared to take heat for your suggestion, especially if its in the vein of the ones above. There are a lot of people on the board with good general weapons knowledge and some with exceptional kowledge. Getting into a pissing match with these people is slitting your own throat. Dont be upset if your suggestion is passed on, its not personal; to some degree people have to toughen up and learn to take criticism.

Also realize that INF is not your personal canvas, I think that many people thing x weapon/item would be 'cool' without thinking about the ramifications to the theme/gameplay/overall mod, then become irate when people, 'generally' logically disprove their weapon/item. The team really doesnt have to do anything for any of us, but yet they show a great committment to the community by posting polls and serioiusly taking feedback, always remember that they dont have to do this, and again, that this is a project done for free and that we pay nothing for, a fact largely taken for granted.

Ultimately I have to say that the community here is, for the most part, mature and responsible around issues and troublemakers tend to be drummed out. Both the team and community provide excellent moderation, on a formal and informal level. If you can stand the heat, then its a good place to be, as there is almost no namecalling and no 100 thread posts all saying how someone/something/clan/idea/suggestion 'sux' or 'gay'
