Jebus, they certainly made the battle box a much more deadlier place. All the motors on the various hazards have been replaced with ones five times as powerful.

And the new corner hammer actually managed to literally flatten one of the contenders.

What a glorious start to the third season, with Jim Smentowski's (that man has class) Nightmare filling the air with the tender bits of his opponent's bot.

And it get's better . . . BattleBot toys should be in retail stores already and remote control versions will be out soon.

Sorry, but none of the RobotWars contestants would last thirty seconds in the BattleBox. Even the RW house robots would be toast.

Oh, and our Junkyard Wars team beat your Scrapyard Challenge team as well, so :thpppbt: ;)

well...

As for RW vz BB, true, but that mainly due to the dumb ethos of the show. It needs more violence, it needs more weaponary, it needs to drop that dumb "pit". It needs to have the whole emphasis on destroying the enemy, not just pushing t around a bit :(

If they took the gloves off the boots, it would be a lot better.

As with, Junkyard Wars/Scrapheap Challenge, the show also has the same problem. It doesn't aim high enough :(

Um . . Sel? That's all BattleBots is about.

Yes, there are hazards in the BattleBox, but they don't get in the way of the action like they do in RobotWars (we get RW on PBS here, so I've seen it). In fact they're there for the robots to use against it's opponent.

And if you'd seen a clip of the first fight with nighmare literally ripping it's opponent into little bits, you'd be pumped about it too. A significant number of BB robots cost around $20,000 USD, so they're not quite the same thing as the RW bots.

Go up and look again at Nightmare pictured above. Note that blade is four feet wide. Imagine that thing spinning at roughly 56MPH. It ain'y meant to just push things around.

Something to add about robotwars...

Are the contestands blindfolded and controlling the bots with their feet?! The few times I've watched the show my jaw was on the floor in amazement of how ridiculously poor they were at manouvering their own machines...

I'm looking forward to seeing the Battlebots show... sounds entertaining..

I wonder, which one came first?

I've seen both, and both had some Americans on the teams, they both looked to be filmed in the very same scrapyard. As far as I could tell, the only difference was that the brit version was presented by the guy who plays Kryten from Red Dwarf, and the US one had presenters who were, erm, not terribly good.

I much preferred the British host over the blond American twit, though I believe that the female host was the same in both versions.

Same thing with that idiot host on "Robotica" or Paul Reubens as the host on "You Don't Know Jack" - people like are why they make volume controls...

The season of Junkyard Wars that had American teams was actually filmed in a specially prepared Junkyard in the US. It was also used for the Junkyard Wars / Scrapheap Challenge World Championship that they showed on July 4th here, where the American champions faced of with the British champions for the world cup of junk.

Robotica lost me as a viewer well within the fist episode. None of the robots are very well put together, and the hosts are less than entertaining.

As for the Robot Wars robots, any claims that they'd make it through an average three minute bout with any of the serious contenders is kind of funny. Last season they actually had a contingent of Britains robot RW builders. None of them lasted over a minute. And the RW house robots would be in one hell of a shock the first time they came up against the likes of Toro, who can flip a five hundre pound robot about three feet into the air and on to it's back. And he's one of the gentler ones. ;)

That US vs UK bot thing was useless, all the US robots that went over to the UK show were crap, and all the UK robots that went over to the US sucked. Both programs have down sides. I prefer the attitudes to bots in the US program, but the UK program has better presenters and a lot more fights per program.

In the UK Robot Wars lasts 45 minutes with no adverts, just all program. When battlebots is shown in the UK it lasts like 25 mins, and has about 2 fights. Its all just hype in the US with them trying to make it look like some wrestling match, which it isnt. Hell, the US program even adds sound effects to the program, how fake is that?!?!

As for bots, my fave bot would have to be the UK bot Razor, the sexiest bot ever, with a claw that crushes with a force of 9 tons.

My final point is clearly seen in both Junkyard wars/Scrapheap Challenge, and Battle bots/Robot Wars. here in the Uk they aim for the fun small scale "made in a garage in spare time" look, while in the US they cant resist hyping it up. In the US they seem to care more about making the machines as good as possible, and in the Uk they care more about having fun doing it.

If BB has sound effects during the fight, then you guys are getting one whacked edit. We get none of that here, and in general three to four fights.

Oh, we're sorry . . . we thought the point was to make robots that actually work and fight, not fall apart at the first sign of being pushed.
