I think the fangs automaticly retract (ingeniously located muscles!) when it closes it's mouth. A bit like a beach chair (the folding ones).
I tripped over a beach chair once and it folded oddly.
What if the snake sneezes or something suddenly, like unexpectedly during an attack on some field mouse. And it bites its own lip. Will its own venom kill it?
