I understand what you are saying Mucus. There are many things in RL you can't do in game. Just watch come of the urban fighting in Iraq to see some of the awkward positions they use for example to lay down suppression fire. I am not even sure how much of that can be done even in the next version.

After playing a few other games though and seeing some very strange things I still take the Inf implementation with its flaws over other systems.

Mucus, i hear what you are saying about the limitations of the INFguy, but what exactly does this have to do with weapon collision? is there specifically something that you really think you cannot do?

AFAIK the collision in INF will prevent you from shoving a rifle thru a brickwall, nothing more and nothing less. and IMO that is pretty realistic. :p

edit: i guess i just dont see what the ROM of the INFelbow has to do with collision, which occurs when the rifle is firmly seated against your shoulder and the other end is firmly bashed into a wall.

Lt, the collision code limits the degree to which you can move your weapon (and your body, I think) when you are close to any object. While, in theory, I like the idea of weapons (and body) collision I think they fail to take into sufficient account the limitations of the player model.

Regarding the elbow. Grab a broomstick (or a real rifle if you have one) and move around your house with the stick shouldered in the aim position. Keep your elbows fixed in the aim-up position and try and move through doors. Now try the same thing, only use your elbows (and wrists) to manouver the stick so it doesn't catch on anything. It doesn't take much practice to do with near 100% perfection, nor do you have to hip the stick. See what I mean?

Sorry Mucus, but your shoulder is not able to move back, so what you do is moving your arms like you can in INF by using your elbows to raise or lower your gun or to move it left or right to get a better angle. Once a weapon is resting at your shoulder you have a very steady combination of weapon, hands, arms and your upper body.
The only thing that is different in INF than to RL is that you would not follow the weapon lowered with your view.

Maybe make some sketches or a short movie of you and your broomstick moving thru a door. Cause I don't catch what your elbows and wrists are doing if it differs from what I described above.

I think he is talking about pulling the rifle close to the soldier's body and having it point directly at the ground -- something often done when moving through tight spaces IRL. If INF ever puts in the "low ready" position, I think this is a movement that could be automatically done while in that mode whenever the player gets very close to an object.

Personally, I think the collision is great. I can't count the number of times I have seen players strafe through doorways and windows in other "realism" games.

Sure, I have played this game a LOT, but I basically never hit my weapon on anything. I have gotten used to going through doorways forwards, then turning sharply as my muzzle clears.
