sweet!! looks as fucked up as i though it should be.:D

has anyone else here seen the animated lord of the rings, by ralph bakshi? it's an amazing adaptation... unfortunately, they only got halfway through the two towers, and then ran out of money.:( they also skipped the barrow dwights... but the animation is some of the coolest you'll ever see, and it's definitely true to the spirit of the books. check it out, you won't be dissappointed and the balrog in it kicks ass!!:)

WellÉ

Actually dude I have seen that cartoon, and I must admit it kicks ass as well. Yes it sucks that he ran out of money too, it was really getting good and it cuts off at such as turning point. But if you can believe it they are releasing it as a remastered VHS tape and DVD in october :) Which will REALLY kick ass.

Oh and yes, the Balrog rules all, too bad he had to die

Balrog or troll, as long as they have the whip (although the troll as a balrog is lame) This looks really good, i noticed many scenes that reminded me of the book I wanna see tom bombadillo! and that mean old oak. I just know this movie is gonna leave out stuff (unless its 40hours long) so I will hope for the best and read the series - for the 4th time -AFTER I see the movie.

I watched the trailer last night.

Looks fantastic. I'm REALLY excited about this movie. I don't think I've been this excited about anything since I was a kid.

/Uppity goes off to work out how many seconds until its released ;)

because it has to sell and in order to sell you have to dumb it down to the level of the average viewer (that is why action movies sell so good, things go boom so they sell).

Why can't they keep the spirit of the book ?:(

I dunno. Isn't he kind of a spirit with substance - kind of like the Ringwraiths?

They wear clothes/crowns and carry weapons. Why not Sauron?

I guess its showing the 'historical' part where Isildur cut the ring from his finger. Given that I guess he *had* to be there physically in some way. All I've seen of Sauron from the trailers is the armour he was wearing...

Quite a long time I've read all the books, including Silmarillon but if I remember well, I think this was in a correspondance or notes from Tolkien where he specify that Valars and their servants inherited a "substance" from Eru himself. The same applies for Melkor and his followers (like Sauron).
Now, they have the possibility, when their flesh enveloppe is dead, to create one but it will be at the cost of a lot of their power that they will definetly lost. That is why, he choosed the form of an eye for his last "incarnation" and stored most of his power in the Ring as a "life" insurrance. If I remember well, technically SAuron is not dead at the end of the saga but his spirit is so weak that he doesn't represent a danger anymore.

Again, it is from my memory and I could be wrong.

(Started reading Bilbo the Hobbit 19 years ago...but read all the saga many times:p)

IIRC, the ring was taken from Sauron's cloven hand by Ilsidur. The trailer shows the ring on Saurons hand, so this could be consistent as long as that scene was a flashback( remember in the FOTR they stopped at Rivendell to decide what to do with the ring. during their stay there, they heard the history of the ring from Elrond. including the battle at gladden field(?!?) where Sauron was defeated by Ilsidur)

OK, now I'm starting to feel like those geeks from the Simpsons:B

I just checked the new trailer, I must say it is beautifull and it seems to me also they are representing Sauron in a flashback.

But.....AAAAArggggghhh! I'm getting an eruption of pimples on all my body when I see these damn pointed ears on elves!

Damn you Gary Gygax, you infected people's mind with that!
