i agree sven.

we brits have a similar problem.i mean, we have an official language right? english. makes sense what with this country being called england huh?
but some immigrants dont even bother, or even intend, to ever learn english. thats just damn insulting. if you dont want to be english, whether you are white black yellow or purple, then wtf are you doing here? its just a bloodless invasion in that case.

some religious leaders in ethnic communities, even go as far as to plan and preach about the day when their group, their country in england, will rule england. thats not "blending" in my opinion.

Well, you've got several millennia of a certain mindset about what a "nation" and a "people" are to overcome. Used to be everyone in a particular nation was the same color, spoke the same language and prayed to the same deity. Being a part of that nation meant sharing those things.

These days that's no longer the case. The idea of the American melting pot was revolutionary in its time, but was much more ideal than reality. The old ways of assimilating people into your society, not just governing them under the same laws, have never really been dropped.

oh, the british melting pot works ok. but religious leaders and so on actively try to keep their communities seperate.

mostly though, a lot of younger people think of themselves more as british than their cultural background. they tend to fit in, or at least, they tend to mix, more than more religious and/or older people. obviously, young men and women no-doubt partake in the segregation of communities oo, but for the most part, youngsters make more of an effort and prove that you dont need top be white to be english.

id say the same goes for america probably.

Well, the example of the younger generations fitting in better is nothing more than the effect of 2nd and 3rd generation immigrants. It's very different to emmigrate to a country than it is to be born there. If you've been born and raised in one country, you will fit in there culturally way better than your immigrant parents.
