Again, Critical Error/General Protection Fault UT?

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

As life persists, so do my problems with UT.

Processor: 550 Athlon
Memory: 256 Meg, unbuffered, non-paridy RAM
Video Card: Voodoo 3 3000
Sound : Aureal Monster
Mother Board: FIC SD11-case containing 2 fans

PROBLEM: I am continuously booted after an undisclosed time of playing UT. Sometimes it happens after 30 sec's, sometimes 30 minutes. UT kicks me back to Windows(98) with critical error message-general protection fault. The fault, and the codes following, change every time with tons of garbage. I have updated my Voodoo drivers, got the newest patch for UT, and still problems. The only other game that I have played is Half-Life, and it seems to have the same effect with Critical Errors kicking me back to windows..???

I put the system together myself(is that the problem?). I have not received any other errors though other than playing games. In the internet, I can surf for hours upon hours and never get kicked... Any help would be greatly appreciated......

Sincerely,
The Blind Man....

Oh, by the way, up until the point that UT crashes, it runs perfectly. There is no lag, no hesitation, running smooth as ever...

Help???????

I'm having a similar problem (messege below), and I realize that after I get kicked... if I CTRL-ALT-DEL... there are about 2-3 instances of UnrealTournament running. I'm thinking that is is putting a real strain on the processor (running 3 coppies), and it probably resets. Just a guess though. let me know if you have the same symptoms.

I get the same problem when I overclock my cpu. Maybe you're PC's are heating up to much, you could try opening the case and see if UT still crashes. If it doesn't just add another 5 1/4" fan in the bottom of your PC.

I don't seem to have multiple UT files showing when I hit Atl-Ctl-Del. I did read in PC Gamer where there have been many people complaining about Athlon kicking out to the Windows desktop while playing Quake,UT, etc. It states probable causes of insufficient power supply, or generic RAM problems..... This may have someting to do with my problem?

Well, The thing is, I have an Intel CC820NA board... and have read that in certain instances the AGP slot isn't getting the correct voltage (3.3V). Also, if you're playing on the Net, and have a Linksys NIC, there are issues regarding IRQ conflicts. I'll research some more... and post the results later. I feel you though, it's very annoying to get kicked like that.
